Lutz said that the Bard has received the Cllege financial statements fr the mnth ended June 30, The fiscal year has ended but the bks are nt final yet. The Cllege is in a strng cash psitin. State funding is higher than expected due t the methdlgy that was used fr persnal prperty tax reimbursement t Clleges. In additin, the Cllege had wage and benefit dllars that were budgeted, but nt spent due t vacancies. In additin, the Cllege came in under budget in its self-funded medical insurance expenses. The Cllege ended the year in the black and in a favrable financial psitin. The final numbers will be presented in Nvember. R. Emrich called fr apprval f the cnsent agenda. M. June 9, 2017, Special Meeting SCIENCE LABORATORY FUME HOOD CONTROLS AND VENTILATION UPGRADES (BA5190) It is the recmmendatin f the Administratin that the Bard f Trustees apprve the prject budget f $1,545,000 and authrize the Facilities Department and administratin t secure bids and award cntracts t cmplete the Science Labratry Fume Hd Cntrls and Ventilatin Upgrade prject. ELIMINATION OF RETAIL MANAGEMENT ADVANCED CERTIFICATE AND ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN BUSINESS STUDIES (BA5191) STUDENT SUCCESS It is the recmmendatin f the Administratin that the Bard f Trustees apprve the eliminatin f the Retail Management Advanced Certificate and Assciate Degree in Business Studies. M. Nash made a mtin t apprve the recmmendatin. M. Mrrissey secnded the mtin. Mtin passed unanimusly. Margaret Msqueda, Vice President f Student and Educatinal Services intrduced this evening s presenters: Michelle White; Destyn Grace, AmeriCORP Vista Wrker; and Amanda Jrdan, Student. Michelle White presented a histry and verview f the AmeriCORP Vista Wrker prgram at Delta Cllege. She intrduced Destyn Grace, current AmeriCORP Vista Wrker, and Amanda Jrdan, Student, wh talked abut the benefits f bth the AmeriCORP prgram, as well as the Cllege s Vlunteer Incentive Prgram (VIP). The VIP prgram aims t bridge the gap between Delta Cllege students and the cmmunity. Amanda Jrdan shared the psitive effects that being invlved in the VIP prgram have had n her experience as a Delta student. PRESIDENT S REPORT Enrllment Reprt Registratin fr the Fall 2017 Semester began n Tuesday, April 11. T-date, 7,778 students have registered (4,878 part-time, 2,900 full-time). Fall classes begin n August 26. Persnnel Reprt The cmplete reprt f hires, prmtins, and separatins fr the mnths f June and July can be fund in Bard packets this evening. 3 D R A F T Dr. Gdnw said that she was saddened t learn f the passing f Dr. Jhn Fuller, frmer Delta Cllege Registrar and Chair f the Cllege s Bard f Trustees. Dr. Fuller remained cmmitted t Delta thrughut mst f his prfessinal life, retiring in 1988 after serving as Registrar since He served n the Delta Cllege Bard f Trustees frm 1989 t 2000, filling the rles f Chair and Vice Chair during his tenure. He and his wife, Janne, als established the Dr. Jhn and Janne Fuller Schlarship Endwment at Delta Cllege. As Delta s Registrar, he wrked hard t mdify, upgrade and imprve the Cllege s registratin and permanent recrd systems. He served as Senate President in 1973 and received the Dn Laughner Award fr Creative Change, which is awarded t an emplyee wh makes cntributins that result in significant change in the institutin, in Dr. Gdnw shared that Dr. Reva Curry, ur Vice President f Instructin and Learning Services, has been nminated and elected t the Michigan Ace Wmen s Netwrk Bard f Directrs fr a three-year term fr her leadership, talents, experience, and expertise. Dr. Crystal Starkey, English Assciate Prfessr and PTK Advisr received the Paragn Award fr New Advisrs frm Phi Theta Kappa. She was recgnized fr her effrts in increasing membership f ur lcal chapter, mentring individual members in their persnal grwth, and fr her encuragement fr the chapter t vlunteer fr events bth n and ff campus. Cngratulatins Dr. Starkey! Dr. Gdnw annunced that Bard Vice Chair, Diane Middletn, has been prmted t Vice President f Operatins at the Midland Area Chamber f Cmmerce. The LPN Pinning Ceremny will take place n Mnday, August 14, frm 5:00-6:30 PM in the Pineer Gym. The RN Pinning Ceremny is scheduled fr Tuesday, August 15, frm 5:00-6:30 PM in the Pineer Gym. At the MCCA Summer Cnference, the fllwing Trustees received recgnitin fr their years f service and I have pins fr each f them: Michael Rwley-5 years f service, Karen Lawrence-Webster-15 years f service, and Dr. Rbert Emrich 25 years f service. Bill s grandfather was Dr. William Cllings wh was the chair f the cmmittee f 300 fr Delta s funding and a charter member f the Bard f Trustees. 5 A flyer marketing sme f the classes available at the Ricker Center. She said that last night we had a wnderful Express Enrllment event at the Ricker Center. Twenty-nine students enrlled at the Center as part f the event. Brad Merrill and Jhn Neal frm the Admissins Office were n-hand t assist students alng with Kristy Nelsn, Dr. Reva Curry, Margaret Msqueda, ur Ricker Staff, and I. Infrmatin n Delta Cllege s invlvement in the Saginaw African Cultural Festival which takes places this Friday, August 11 th thrugh Sunday, August 13 th. An update n the Saginaw Center Prject as well as a press release that will be distributed tmrrw regarding the prject. TRUSTEE COMMENTS M. Benecke said that she fund the MCCA Summer Cnference t be a very valuable experience. She nted that higher educatin is changing and, as a Cllege, we have t be brave, keep fferings rbust, and cntinue t grw and innvate. M. Nash thanked L. Ramseyer fr his service t Delta Cllege. He als thanked Dr. Gdnw fr the draft f her gals and said he is lking frward t discussing them in September. R. E. Selby said that he was als in attendance at the MCCA Summer Cnference. He said it was a great prgram with excellent speakers. He nted that we d a pretty great jb here. We need t keep ding what we are ding and maintain fcus. M. Rwley als thanked L. Ramseyer fr his utstanding service ver the years. He said that he wants t see the Cllege be creative. We need t be when there is s much cmpetitin fr ur students. A. Buckley thanked this evening s presenters. He said that the infrmatin that is presented each mnth helps him t grw as a Trustee. D. Middletn thanked the 3 Trustees (M. Rwley, R. Emrich, and K. Lawrence-Webster) wh celebrated service milestnes this year. D. Middletn als discussed the MCCA Summer Cnference. She said it was a wnderful cnference. She mentined the jint statement f AACC and ACCT n Equity and Diversity. She encuraged the Trustees t read it and said that perhaps the Trustees culd adpt smething similar mving frward. She said that Nah Brwn, ACCT, was at the MCCA Summer Cnference. He shared a lng list f prpsals by the Trump Administratin that wuld mean cutbacks t educatin prgrams. D. 6 Finally, D. Middletn discussed the impactful presentatin that was delivered by Wes Mre. She said the cnference prgramming was impressive. CHAIR COMMENTS R. Emrich talked abut Jhn Fuller and what a wnderful persn he was. He said that he was an excellent Trustee, clleague and servant t his cmmunity.
