The Resident Assistant will cmplement a student s academic gals and persnal grwth by serving as a psitive rle mdel and resurce. RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS Cmmunity Develpment Identify yur residents and knw where they live within first three weeks f the semester. Ntify supervisr f rmmate cnflicts immediately and assist with rmmate mediatins / cntracts. Be available t residents and maintain high level f visibility in the buildings. Encurage residents t take respnsibility fr incidents and events in the cmmunity. Maintain a psitive flr cmmunity thrugh pen cmmunicatin and prgramming. Identify and ffer assistance t residents and clleagues n persnal, academic, wellness, r ther special issues. Respnd and reprt behavir that is inapprpriate / discriminatry / harassing in nature (racial, ethnic, religius, ability, gender, and/r sexual identity). Create and maintain bulletins in living area t prvide infrmatin t residents Safety and Security Be familiar with The Summit Rules and Regulatins, Queens Cllege and CUNY guidelines and plicies and the Resident Assistant Manual. Interpret and enfrce cllege and Residence Hall regulatins and plicies. Learn and implement building-wide emergency respnse prcedures. Invite and include Queens Public Safety fficers in prgramming. Cmplete and submit Incident Reprts immediately fllwing an incident. Respnd t situatins needing attentin (whether r nt n duty r in yur assigned building). Observe residents t identify emtinal, relatinship, psychlgical, academic r scial prblems. Intervene apprpriately r reprt, as needed. Prgramming Crdinate and cmplete at least fur (4) prgrams per semester. Encurage and invlve residents t develp and implement prgrams. Cmplete and submit a Prgram Prpsal at least three (7) days in advance f prgram. Purchase apprval must be btained in advance frm supervisr. Evaluate and cmplete Prgram Evaluatin within three (3) days f prgram cmpletin. Submit prgramming receipts t supervisr within 24 hurs f purchase. Facility Management Assist with rm cnditin assessments prir t Mve-In and after Mve-Out. Cllect cmpleted Rm Cnditin Reprts fllwing Check-In. Assist with the pening and clsing f the buildings. Cnduct health, safety and maintenance inspectins as scheduled and fllw-up accrdingly. 4 P a g e
6 Reprt maintenance cncerns fr yur flr and the buildings. Administrative Participate in training and administrative tasks which ccur prir t classes beginning and after classes end. Maintain cnfidentiality. Infrming yur supervisr is nt a breach f cnfidentiality and RAs are expected t keep their supervisrs apprised f any ptential prblem. Cmprmising cnfidentiality culd result in the immediate terminatin f emplyment. Perfrm administrative duties in a thrugh and timely manner, including, but nt limited t, preparing biweekly reprts, ccupancy reprts, damage billing, surveys, and reprting f maintenance issues. Participate in RA selectin, training, and ther events as assigned. Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned. This will generally include three (3) in-services a semester, bi-weekly meeting with supervisr and weekly staff meeting. Use Facebk and ther n-line cmmunity grups in a befitting way t be a psitive rle and student leader. Inapprpriate cmments, phts r psting culd result in terminatin f Resident Assistant psitin. Cnsult with supervisr prir t discussing cmmunity related issues with the press (Queens, lcal r natinal). Duty Staff cverage/duty will be required during academic calendar break perids (hlidays and extended time). Schedule will be determined by the staff. Participate in n-call duty rtatin fr bth buildings (requires walking utside t access 2 nd building). Use duty cell phne in prfessinal manner and fr business purpses nly. Pick-up and return duty cell phne at assigned times. Requirements fr emplyment Maintain a cumulative GPA f 2.5 prir t and during RA term. Maintain full-time enrllment and gd standing with the cllege.
