Annunce in persn at department faculty meeting frm chair Advertise during OR events: tenure panel, CAREER panel, DOE panel, etc Have participants spread the wrd Hnestly, I wuld frce (r extremely recmmend) all incming assistant prfessrs t take this in the first year, s cntact them separately NOTE: this was NOT advertised enugh. When I tld ther faculty they were amazed (bviusly they did nt read ) Sending/ ing t all faculty at UCSB may be valuable I like s 11

12 Evaluatin - Peer Review (they liked it!) D yu think peer review exercises shuld be included in future GWIs? Yes: 7 Faculty, 3 Grad N: 0 Often a peer wuld prvide a nugget f infrmatin n hw they achieved a certain result/their elevatr speech/cmputing/dcument prep (Y) Rtating peers fr reviews is a great idea t get as many different perspectives as pssible (Y) Withut it, the GWI wuld nt make much sense as we learn frm ur and ther s mistakes (Y) They are very mtivating. I think prfessinal review wuld be gd t add. I gt the mst helpful feedback frm Meredith and Jsh (Y) Peer review is a gd training t test ur wn capacity t deal with the subjectivity f the review prcess (Y) 12

13 Evaluatin - $$ Incentives are Imprtant Wuld yur attendance frequency have changed if full attendance were nt required t receive the financial incentive r if the financial incentive was nt ffered? N Yes, since a lt f the stuff I knew and I m s busy! My attendance wuld prbably nt have changed. Being held accuntable was gd, n excuse t drp ut. I think requiring attendance is critical N Yes. I kind f realized there was a chance I wuldn t be able t qualify fr the funding I might nt be able t meet the perfrmance/attendance requirement, but having the incentive there helped me justify the reallcatin f my time t prpsal tasks Yes 13

14 Evaluatin - Perceived Value Wuld yu recmmend this GWI t ther faculty? Yes: 7 Faculty, 2 Grad, N: 0 This is ne f the mst valuable prgrams I have participated in at UCSB, related t prfessinal develpment. The skills learned are immediately imprtant and hpefully will imprve ur success rate s be valuable t UCSB as a whle (Y) The grammar and ther stuff really helps with nt nly grants but papers (Y) Shuld be especially advertised t peple in their 2nd-4th years f tenure track. This is a great netwrking tl t meet ther assistant prfs wh are at similar career stages. (Y) T make UCSB even mre successful! (Y) It was a little dd t be senir faculty, but I really needed this kind f supprt and am very grateful t have been allwed in. Yu ll prbably have a relatively small number f flks like me because it is an admissin f weakness. I think it shuld be required f all junir faculty thugh where there is n stigma. (Y) It was very useful and I think anyne (which includes researchers/nn-faculty) shuld have the same pprtunity. They als help bring funds t UCSB. (Y) 14
