Here are sme imprtant updates regarding what is happening n campus: - We are excited t welcme ur accreditatin agency, TRACS, t ur campus fr a regular 5 year visit this summer. - Fr Academic Year 18/19, we have awarded ver $450, in grant based schlarships t students. There are still schlarships t be awarded. Schlarship essay cmpetitins were held last spring, and will cntinue t be held fr new students during summer rientatins. - In June 2018, Hiwassee Cllege is scheduled t receive a $200,000 estate gift. This brings the verall giving f estate gifts t ver $800,000 in Cnstructin update: Brck Demlitin is 100% cmplete Library Demlitin is 95% cmplete We are currently in the bid phase fr cmpletin f bth prjects Cnstructin shuld begin by mid July Cmpletin fr bth prjects is scheduled fr August 2019 Brck Hall June 2018 Library June

Elaine Walker, Directr f Financial Aid Sptlight: ELAINE WALKER Elaine Walker is the Financial Aid Directr at Hiwassee Cllege. As a dedicated member f the financial aid cmmunity since 2004, Mrs. Walker brings knwledge and experience t Hiwassee Cllege. As a leader, she will always be available t ur students, staff, and faculty fr any f their financial aid needs and questins. Mrs. Walker s number ne gal is t ensure all students are educated in their financial aid funding and graduate with as little debt as pssible. In an effrt t help ur students, Mrs. Walker sends s t the student bdy n a regular basis, sharing with them different types f schlarships that they can apply fr. Originally brn and raised in Puert Ric, she lived in Flrida fr 20 years, and became a Tennessee resident in July Mrs. Walker and her husband are sprts fans, s dn t be surprised if yu see them cheering n the Hiwassee Tigers during ur hme games. 4

6 HC: Technlgy Updates First f all, welcme t cllege! This is a perid in yur life where yu will accelerate yur learning and critical thinking and the IT department here at the Cllege stands ready t help yu as best we can. During the last tw years, the cllege has made sme very serius changes t yur experience with ur technlgy. We targeted several areas that the Cllege hpes will enhance yur life here. We have upgraded the WiFi devices acrss campus in an effrt t give yu the best signal pssible fr yur phnes, tablets, cmputers, and entertainment devices. We chse a best in class prvider and upgraded nt nly the devices but als the cnnectins t ur internet prvider. If yu were t cmpare the Cllege s bandwidth t what ther clleges prvide t their students per capita yu will find yu have mre rm t learn and entertain yurselves than 95% f clleges and universities in the cuntry. Nt nly d we take yur ability t research, learn, and entertain yurselves serius, but the schl is als very cmmitted t prtecting yu and yur private infrmatin at a level much higher than what is recmmended by the US Gvernment fr higher educatin. In the last year, we upgraded ur main firewall that exists between yu and the bad actrs ut their trying t steal yur infrmatin, but we have als partnered with the best anti-virus prduct available in the US. Sphs prvides t yu, free f charge, anti-virus and malware prtectin (just check the link that exists fr dwnlad under the Campus Life > Technlgy sectin f the website). The schl has als partnered with Micrsft t ffer a free student versin f the premier Office sftware in the natin as well. Many cmpanies require yu t be able t use effectively Micrsft Wrd, Excel, PwerPint, and ther Office prducts in rder t ffer yu a well-paying jb. Please take advantage f this free sftware dwnlad t the mst current versin f Micrsft Office under the Campus Life > Technlgy sectin f the website. If yu have any issues with the technlgy n the campus, need sftware assistance n yur persnal device, r require help in chsing/ directin in repair f yur persnal device, please feel free t cntact the IT department by Phne ( ), (rwlandj@hiwassee.edu), r in persn (Barker Learning Center rm 208B). Imprtant Infrmatin: Yur WiFi netwrk is called HCStudent. The WiFi passwrd is hctigersnw. Yu can jin any device t the student netwrk be it Phne, Tablet, Cmputer, Smart TV, r gaming Cnsle. Yu are sharing a 1 Gigabit link t the Internet That is equivalent t 200 peple watching HD mvies at the same time. The average price fr a student editin f Micrsft Office is currently retailing at $150. That is an instant savings t yu. The average cst fr cmputer anti-virus is $200 fr fur years. Once again the Sphs prduct is free fr yu. The average cst fr a sftware supprt call is $80 dllars per hur.
