1 2019 IGP Faculty Research Initiatin Grant Faculty Research Initiatin Grant: Faculty Research Initiatin Grants prvide supprt fr faculty initiating new prgrams f research, schlarship r creative endeavr r t early career faculty beginning their research prgrams. The research prject can be cnducted by ne r mre investigatrs that will prduce data needed fr publicatins, enhance the likelihd f securing extramural funding, and/r enable creative schlarship and research prjects with a demnstrated likelihd f significantly enhancing the reputatin f Auburn University. Available Funds: $10,000 cntributin frm OVPR; supprted by a minimum f a 1:1 match t yur request. Funding is ver a tw - year perid. PI Eligibility: Fr all grant categries: PI eligibility fllws the institutinal requirements set frth in the University s Statement f Principal Investigatr Eligibility. Submissin Guidance: Each eligible applicant may submit ne Faculty Research Initiatin Grant prpsal in a year. In additin, an eligible applicant may submit a secnd prpsal prvided it is an applicatin fr a Gd t Great grant. Applicants shuld keep in mind that members f the Peer Review Panel represent a variety f disciplines frm acrss the university. Therefre, applicants must write their prpsals withut excessive jargn and in a style that is clear t reviewers wh are nt experts in the specified area. First time users will need t click n register in the lwer right crner f the lgin screen. Once yu have set up yur accunt, the applicatin will pen. Fllw the instructins fr cmpleting yur applicatin. Using the Save as Draft feature at the bttm f the applicatin allws yu t save yur applicatin and return t cmplete it as needed. Yu will need t check the Applicant Acknwledgment bx at the end f the applicatin every time yu save fr future input and when yu submit. Budget Request Frm The Budget Request Frm includes a Budget Request and a Cst Share FOP Table requiring ADR Signature(s) f each cntributing unit. It is strngly recmmended that the Budget and Budget Justificatin fr this prpsal be reviewed by the applicant s departmental accuntant r financial analyst befre submissin. Budget Justificatin - One Page Limit. Prvide a written justificatin fr the budget requests. Budget requests can be made fr technical r pstdctral salary supprt, graduate research assistantships, and undergraduate supprt. The IGP recgnizes the imprtance f graduate and undergraduate training and encurages PIs t invlve graduate and undergraduate students in research. The IGP allws fr ne mnth s faculty salary (per year). Fringe benefits must be included fr all salaries as apprpriate; payments fr varius materials, chemicals, and supplies, travel directly related t the prject, small equipment (under $5,000 ttal), publicatin csts, and/r ther csts can be requested. As a rule, funds cannt be requested fr ffice supplies such as 3 9/10/2018

4 phnes, cell phnes, internet service, subscriptins, memberships, laptp cmputers, ipads, and general sftware. Prject-specific cmputers and/r prject-specific sftware package(s) are allwed, but a detailed justificatin must be prvided. Cnflict f Interest: The term cnflict f interest in research refers t situatins in which financial r ther persnal cnsideratins may cmprmise, r have the appearance f cmprmising a researcher's prfessinal judgment in cnducting r reprting research. A cnflict f interest in research exists when the individual has interests in the utcme f the research that may lead t a persnal advantage and that might therefre, in actuality r appearance cmprmise the integrity f the research. While the University expects that all f its faculty and ther research staff shuld carry ut their prfessinal respnsibilities with the highest standards f persnal integrity, it is necessary t acknwledge and t avid r manage situatins where a secndary interest culd reasnably be expected by thers t influence decisin-making. Prvide an alphabetical list fr each PI, C-PI and C-I f Cnflicts f Interest (internal and external). This infrmatin is needed fr prper review f yur prpsal. Please see the IGP Cnflict f Interest Guidelines t determine what individuals shuld be cnsidered in cnflict with yur prpsal. Curriculum Vitae - Prvide a CV in any extramural agency frmat (e.g. NIH, NSF, DOD) fr each investigatr, limit up t five pages in length. The CV shuld be limited t a presentatin f academic and research credentials. It shuld include the fllwing: Brief summary f investigatr s qualificatins fr the wrk included in the prpsal Brief summary f teaching, schlarship and research expertise Educatin histry (degrees) Relevant emplyment histry Awards and Hnrs Relevant publicatins and presentatins Juried exhibitins, perfrmances, cmpetitins, etc. D nt include meetings attended, seminars given, r persnal data. N additinal materials, appendices, r supplementary dcumentatin will be accepted. Electrnic Apprvals The applicant must enter the address f their Department Head in Apprval Ruting 1 and their Assciate Dean fr Research in Apprval Ruting 2 t initiate the ruting prcess. Please keep in mind these apprvals when submitting yur prpsal, as any prpsals received after the applicatin deadline that are nt apprved, will nt be cnsidered fr review. 5 Prpsals must be received thrugh the AU Cmpetitin Space ( Please nte, apprvals frm yur Department Head and Assciate Dean fr Research are required prir t the applicatin deadline. Als, sme Departments/Clleges require earlier internal deadlines review/apprval f applicatins. Check with yur unit t see if they have an earlier internal deadline. Prpsal Review and Evaluatin Each applicatin is evaluated thrugh a tw-part prcess. (1) Each applicatin will be screened t ensure that it meets the administrative requirements as set frth in this RFP. Applicatins that d nt meet the guidelines as stated in this RFP will be eliminated frm the cmpetitin and will be returned t the applicant withut review. This determinatin will be made prir t submitting the prpsals fr peer review. (2) Three peer reviewers evaluate each qualifying prpsal. Their evaluatins are presented and discussed at a Peer Reviewer meeting where final rankings f the prpsals are assigned. Research Cmpliance All research must be cnducted in cmpliance with Federal and University Regulatins. Cmpliance letters and prtcls are nt needed at the time f prpsal submissin. Hwever, funds will nt be released fr awarded prjects until ntice f cmpliance apprval is received frm the Office f Research Cmpliance. The applicant must indicate n the prpsal whether a cmpliance apprval f the prpsed research/creative schlarship (e.g. IRB, IACUC, IBC) is needed. All apprved prpsals invlving, r appearing t invlve, research with animals, human subjects, r bihazardus/radiactive materials will be reviewed by the Office f Research Cmpliance fr the need t btain prtcl apprval. All research prcedures utlined in the apprved prpsal must be cvered in the apprved prtcl(s) and all versight cmmittee apprvals must be secured prir t the establishment f an IGP FOP. Requirements fr Cst Sharing and Release f Funds A minimum ne-t-ne cash (nt in-kind) cst share is required fr all IGP grants. Cst share can cme frm varius surces such as a department(s), cllege(s), research center(s), r ther surce(s); hwever, salaries r an emplyee s time cannt be cunted tward the cst share. Federal and state grant funds, OVPR-surced funds, and mst restricted FOPs, cannt be used as cst share. Once any necessary cmpliance apprvals are in place, the OVPR will request departmental/cllege lading f the cmmitted cst share funds. If the department/cllege can lad its entire tw-year prtin f the cst share, the OVPR will lad its tw-year prtin as well. If the department/cllege can nly cmmit t cst sharing ne year at a time, the OVPR will cncmitantly lad its award prtin annually. The OVPR reserves the right t redistribute r retract mnies if prblems arise relative t satisfactry prgress r cmpliance with all terms as set frth in the IGP RFP r due t ecnmic necessity f the university. 6 award perid will be returned t their riginal surces in the same prprtin in which they were laded. Additinal Infrmatin: Prir t submissin, applicants are requested t review his/her prpsal t see if it cntains any infrmatin that is subject t exprt cntrl (see fr additinal infrmatin). Prpsals cntaining prprietary infrmatin will be evaluated with due cnsideratin fr prtectin f this infrmatin t the extent permitted by law. Exprt cntrl and prprietary infrmatin must be clearly identified in the prpsal. In additin, an reminder must be sent t Dr. Rbert Hlm (rhlm@auburn.edu) by the deadline f prpsal submissin. Annual prgress will be mnitred by the Assciate Dean fr Research f the PI s cllege. The ADRs will reprt successes r prblematic prjects t the Office f the Vice President fr Research. A final reprt is required fr all IGP prjects. The final reprt frm must be used and shuld be made within 60 days f the anniversary date f the award. The Final Reprt is designed t prvide infrmatin n: Prject Objectives and Accmplishments Summary Infrmatin Descriptin f verall impact f the prject including published articles, peerreviewed presentatins at majr prfessinal cnferences, prpsals generated frm the funded research and extramural awards received as a result f the funded research. All reprts must be made befre r n the due date. Failure t submit reprts n time makes the PI nncmpliant with the terms f the IGP award. Nncmpliance may result in sanctins including withhlding payments, suspending r terminating part r all f the current award, r nt awarding further grants t the PI. 6 9/10/2018
