A resume can either pen r clse the dr t an interview depending n hw well it presents the applicant. Fr this reasn, it is critical students learn hw t create a resume that is infrmative, cncise, interesting, and well-structured. In this lessn, students will learn hw t develp an effective resume. Presentatin resume: Presentatin resumes are multimedia presentatins and, unlike paper resumes, these give emplyers a better sense f the applicant and why s/he is the right persn fr the jb. Reference: is a current r frmer emplyer r mentr wh can prvide a frmal recmmendatin t a ptential emplyer describing a persn s skills, abilities, and wrk habits. Resume: is a summary f a jb seeker s persnal infrmatin that includes educatin, skills, wrk experience, recgnitins, etc. Skill: is the learned ability t d smething well; a particular ability. Intrduce the lessn by shwing the start-up vide (link in Materials sectin) and cnfirm students understand what t expect. These include: inaccurate infrmatin (lies and half-truths) incrrect cntact infrmatin a weak r unclear bjective highlighting duties instead f accmplishments typs and grammatical errrs n actin verbs t lng, t shrt, r visually t busy slppy frmatting As a class, identify and discuss the differences between gd and bad resumes. 5. Have students g nline t the Califrnia CareerZne (link in Materials sectin). Students will need a CareerZne accunt. If a student des nt have an accunt, distribute and review the Califrnia CareerZne Student Accunt Setup handut. Have each student set up an accunt. 6. Once everyne has an accunt, direct them t the CareerZne Resume Builder (link in Materials sectin). Instruct students t create their wn resumes. Yu can get t the Resume Builder by ging t CareerZne hme page, select Grw frm the tp navigatin bar, then select Resume Builder. 7. Yu may wish t have students print their resumes in varius frmats s they can see hw frmatting impacts readability. Have students dwnlad their resumes and persnalize their final prduct rather than using the final versin created by the Resume Builder tl. 9.
