1 General Surgery (ST3) Entry Criteria Qualificatins Eligibility Essential Criteria When Evaluated 1 MBBS r equivalent medical qualificatin Successful cmpletin f MRCS r equivalent at time f applicatin Eligible fr full registratin with the GMC at time f appintment 2 and hld a current licence t practice. 3 Evidence f achievement f Fundatin cmpetences frm a UKFPO affiliated Fundatin Prgramme r equivalent by time f appintment 2 in line with GMC standards/ Gd Medical Practice including: 5 Make the care r yur patient yur first cncern Prtect and prmte the health f patients and f the public Prvide a gd standard f practice and care Treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity Wrk in partnership with patients Be hnest and pen and act with integrity Evidence f achievement f CT/ST1 cmpetences in general surgery at time f applicatin & CT/ST2 cmpetences in general surgery by time f appintment 2, supprted by evidence frm wrk-based assessments f clinical perfrmance (DOPS, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) and Multisurce Feedback r equivalent Eligibility t wrk in the UK Nt previusly relinquished, released r remved frm a training prgramme in this specialty except under exceptinal circumstances 4 / Fitness T Practise Is up t date and fit t practise safely Language Skills Health All applicants t have demnstrable skills in written and spken English adequate t enable effective cmmunicatin abut medical tpics with patients and clleagues demnstrated by ne f the fllwing: that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; r have achieved the fllwing scres in the academic lnternatinal English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 mnths at time f applicatin Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7. If applicants believe they have adequate cmmunicatin skills but d nt fit int ne f these examples they must prvide supprting evidence Meets prfessinal health requirements (in line with GMC standards/ Gd Medical Practice) Pre-emplyment health screening 1 when evaluated is indicative, but may be carried ut at any time thrughut the selectin prcess 2 Time f appintment refers t the date at which the pst cmmences 3 The GMC intrduced a licence t practice in Any dctr wishing t practice in the UK after this date must be bth registered and hld a licence t practice at time f appintment. 4 Examples might include ARCP utcme 4 r failure t prgress after tw r mre failed RITA Es. Applicatins will nly be cnsidered if there is a letter f supprt frm the Pstgraduate Dean r designated Deputy f the deanery in which they wrked. Shuld the Pstgraduate Dean nt supprt the applicatin, appeal may be made t the Recruitment Lead whse decisin will be final. The Recruitment lead may be the recruitment team at the ffice managing recruitment r at the deanery t whm yu are making yur applicatin. 5 A selectin is a prcess nt a place. It invlves a number f selectin activities that may be delivered within the Unit f Applicatin.

2 Career Prgressin Ability t prvide a cmplete emplyment histry Evidence that career prgressin is cnsistent with persnal circumstances Evidence that present achievement and perfrmance is cmmensurate with ttality f perid f training At least 24 mnths experience 6 in surgery (nt including Fundatin mdules) by time f appintment 2, f which at least 12 mnths experience has been in elective general surgery including a minimum f 12 mnths n call fr emergency general surgery. 7 It is permissible fr this experience t have been in any cuntry. Nt previusly released r remved frm a UK General Surgery Specialty training prgramme 8 Nt previusly resigned r relinquished a natinal training number fr General Surgery specialty training except under extrardinary circumstances irrespective f the length f time in the training prgramme. 9 Des nt already hld r eligible t hld an General Surgery CCT and is nt currently n the specialist register, r equivalent, in any ther EU member state Applicatin Cmpletin ALL sectins f applicatin frm cmpleted FULLY accrding t written guidelines Selectin Criteria Career Prgressin Essential Desirable When evaluated As abve Cmpletin f a year s General Surgery experience at CT/ST level by the time f appintment 2 Less than 4 years experience in General Surgery at CT/ST level (nt including fundatin mdules) Curses Attendance at relevant curses, e.g. ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills r equivalent, CCrISP 6 Any time perids specified in this persn specificatin refer t full time equivalent 7 General surgery as defined in the current curriculum includes upper GI, HPB, clrectal, transplant, breast, vascular, endcrine and remte and rural surgery 8 Applicatins will NOT be cnsidered if an ARCP Outcme 4 r RITA E.has been given at any pint in their General Surgery training prgramme. 9 Applicatins will nly be cnsidered if satisfactry prgress (ARCP Outcme1) at the time f resignatin/relinquishing the NTN has been demnstrated and there is a letter f supprt frm either the Pstgraduate Dean r Head f Schl in the Deanery in which they wrked which cnfirms this. Extrardinary circumstances may be defined as a demnstrated change in circumstances, which can be shwn t impact n the ability t train at that time and may include severe persnal illness r family caring respnsibility incmpatible with cntinuing t hld a NTN either thrugh sickness absence, as a LTFT trainee r in a perid ut f prgramme.
