The fllwing infrmatin is designed t assist with the admissin prcess, explain expectatins, and answer questins regarding the prgram. T begin, the Central Texas Cllege admissin requirements are presented in the current CTC catalg. All students must be Texas Success Initiative (TSI) cmplete r exempt prir t admissin t the ADN Prgram. 3 Central Texas Cllege Assciate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Prgram Prgram Hurs and Lcatins The prgram is divided int classrm prtin and clinical prtins. Hurs fr bth vary depending n semester. Classrm hurs are generally 8:00 a.m. t 4:30 P.M. Mnday-Thursday. Classrms are in the Nursing Center, Bldg 155, n Central Campus. Clinical is currently scheduled n Tuesdays & Thursdays in first semester and Mndays & Tuesdays in subsequent semesters. Clinical hurs vary and include 8 and 12 hur shifts. Hurs may be frm 6:30 a.m. t 2:30 P.M., 7:00 a.m. t 7 p.m., r 1:00 P.M. t 9:00 p.m. All students will wrk the evening shift a n d / r h u r shifts during the prgram. Clinical days/hurs are subject t change as they are based n availability in clinical facilities. Space in clinical curses is limited. Clinical placements are based n faculty availability and the ability f clinical sites t supprt student achievement f clinical and prgram learning utcmes. Students are nt guaranteed assignments that are in clse prximity t the campus n which they attend, whether central campus r an extensin site. Students may be required t cmmute t distant facilities fr clinical. Clinical lcatins include, but are nt limited t, Cpperas Cve, Marble Falls, Gatesville, Killeen, Temple, Wac, and Lampasas. CTC des nt prvide transprtatin fr clinical rtatins. The final clinical placement f students in any clinical is at the discretin f the faculty. General Infrmatin Nursing ffers many pprtunities t bth men and wmen. Nursing is a dynamic prfessin which applies knwledge frm scientific and humanistic theries in a unique way. Nursing is fcused n the patient s attainment f wellness and the cntributins made t sciety. Thrugh the use f a systematic prblem slving prcess, nurses assist patients t determine, attain, and maintain an ptimum level f wellness. Assciate Degree Nursing (ADN) graduates are prepared fr practice in a variety f health care settings in the cmmunity. Students may apply fr admissin int the ADN Prgram in the Fall r Spring semesters. The ADN cursewrk requires tw calendar years t cmplete. Upn cmpletin, graduates are eligible t receive an Assciate f Applied Science Degree and becme candidates fr the Natinal Cuncil Licensure Examinatin fr Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN ). A candidate wh successfully passes this exam is then licensed t practice as a Registered Nurse (RN). The ADN Prgram prvides the student with classrm instructin and crdinated clinical experiences in the nursing care f patients in lcal health care facilities under the supervisin and guidance f faculty. 4 Admissin Plicy (utilize the ADN prgram checklist within packet) Applicants fr the ADN prgram must be admitted t Central Texas Cllege first. After being admitted t the Cllege, the fllwing must be cmpleted by the eligibility deadline fr a student t be cnsidered fr admissin t the prgram: Disclsure f the Scial Security number is required fr admissin int the Department f Nursing Prgrams: Assciate Degree Nursing and Vcatinal Nursing. Affiliated clinical facilities require the student Scial Security number t apprve placement in their facility. DONAH plicy requires the s t u d ent t be eligible t attend all affiliated clinical sites and des nt prvide special placement. Central Texas Cllege will nt lcate r prvide alternative sites fr students ineligible t attend clinical rtatins at the specified sites. Clinical rtatins are cmpleted at sites specified by and cntracted with Central Texas C l l e g e. *STUDENTS WHO ARE NON-US CITIZENS: Prvisin f clinical placement is dependent upn the affiliated clinical facility acceptance f a nn-us Citizen. Withdrawal frm the curse and the nursing prgram will be necessary if the nn-us citizen is nt accepted by the affiliated clinical facility. All Internatinal r Cmmunity Freign students must meet with a CTC Academic Advisr fr English as a Secnd Language (ESL) assistance. Be Texas State Initiative (TSI) cmplete and be cleared by an Academic Advisr. Cmplete and submit the CTC ADN Prgram Applicatin nline via E-Frms Cmplete the HESI A2 Admissin Assessment Exam by the eligibility deadline date. The HESI A2 is a cmputerized test which may be taken at the CTC Testing Center r ther apprved testing site. If the HESI A2 is successfully cmpleted at anther testing center, the results must be sent electrnically frm the testing site t the CTC DONAH. A HESI A2 Prep bk is available in the CTC Bkstre. The HESI A2 is the nly exam accepted. The exam must be cmpleted with scres f 80% in each sectin f Math, Reading Cmprehensin, and Vcabulary and General Knwledge. Anatmy and Physilgy must als be taken with a scre f 60% minimum scre requirement. All prtins must be passed in ne sitting. HESI A2 exams greater than 2 years ld will nt be accepted. We recmmend that prspective students take the HESI A2 when they are clse t the semester they intend t enrll in. Exam results are available immediately upn cmpletin. If unsuccessful after 2 attempts, a 5-mnth remediatin perid is recmmended befre the HESI A2 is retaken. Only transfer curses with a grade f a C r better will be cnsidered fr the CTC ADN Nursing Degree Plan. Cmplete and attain a minimum f a 2.8 verall (average) GPA (n a 4.0 scale) fr all CTC ADN Degree Plan prerequisite/c-requisite curses whether taken at CTC r transferred frm anther cllege r university. Attain a minimum f a 2.8 verall (average) GPA (n a 4.0 scale) fr all CTC ADN Degree Plan lab science prerequisite curses. Lab science curses ver five (5) years ld must be repeated. Grades fr all required lab science curses attempted within the last five years will be cnsidered when calculating the verall lab science GPA. This includes any science curses that were repeated. A student wh has repeated a required lab science curse mre than nce within the last five years and earned grades f less than a C will be ineligible fr admissin int the Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram. A student wh has repeated HPRS 2300 mre than nce and earned grades f less than a C (75%) will be ineligible fr admissin in t the Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram. HPRS 2300 curses greater than five years ld will nt be accepted. If RNSG 1301 was taken, it must have been cmpleted within the past five years and will be accepted in lieu f HPRS Attendance is required at a mandatry Preadmissin Infrmatin Sessin during the semester all prerequisite curses are cmpleted. The fllwing must be n recrd in the DONAH prir t being scheduled fr the sessin: DONAH Nursing prgram applicatin, t r a n s cr i pt s, TSI verificatin, HESI A2 exam scres, and grades fr all prerequisite cursewrk. This meeting is nrmally held clse t the eligibility deadline date f the semester fr 1

There is n part-time ptin in the ADN prgram. **AFTER yu are ntified f selectin t the ADN prgram and prir t registratin fr the first semester f nursing curses, yu must prvide validatin in the frm f riginal dcuments and ne phtcpy f each f the fllwing: Tetanus/Diphtheria Tdap must be nted as administered nce in lifetime- If n recrd then student will need t get a Tdap. If a Tdap was administered, then Td is required every ten years. Pli Students enrlled in health-related curses are encuraged t ascertain that they are immune t plimyelitis. Measles Students brn n r after January 1, 1957 must have tw dses f measles-cntaining vaccine administered since January 1, Thse brn prir t January 1, 1957 must shw ne dse. Serlgic cnfirmatin f immunity is acceptable (titer cmpleted and interpreted as immune t measles). Mumps Students brn n r after January 1, 1957 must have tw dses f mumps r serlgic cnfirmatin f immunity is acceptable (titer cmpleted and interpreted as immune t mumps). Rubella Tw dses required. Serlgic cnfirmatin f immunity is acceptable (titer cmpleted and interpreted as immune t rubella). Hepatitis B Students must cmplete the Hepatitis B series which cnsists f three injectins. The series f injectins are administered ver a 6-mnth perid f time please plan accrdingly! Serlgic cnfirmatin f immunity is acceptable (titer cmpleted and interpreted as immune t Hepatitis B). Tuberculsis Dcumentatin f negative screening results fr tuberculsis (TB) is required. Students must cmplete ne f the fllwing TB tests within thirty (30) days preceding first day f first rtatin perid at any Facility and repeated annually thereafter: 2-Step Tuberculin Skin Test; QuantiFERON -TB Gld in-tube test (QFT-GIT r Q- Gld) r T-SPOT TB test (T-Spt). Thereafter a 2-Step Tuberculin Skin Test; QuantiFERON -TB Gld In-Tube test (QFT-GIT r Q-Gld) r T-SPOT TB test (T-Spt) is required annually. Thse wh have had a previus psitive TB skin test result will be required t submit a negative chest x-ray cmpleted within thirty (30) days preceding first day f first clinical rtatin perid at any Facility. There after an annual negative chest x-ray will be required thrugh prgram cmpletin. Varicella must receive tw dses f varicella (Chicken Px) vaccine. Serlgic cnfirmatin f immunity is acceptable (titer cmpleted and interpreted as immune t varicella). Influenza Must shw current flu seasn vaccinatin n later than Octber 1 st ; thse admitted in Spring semesters must receive the current seasn flu sht n later than tw weeks prir t the prgram start date and will be required t receive anther vaccinatin fr the upcming flu seasn n later than Octber 1 st Bacterial Meningitis the Texas legislature requires ALL entering students at institutins f higher e d u c a t i n t have an initial bacterial meningitis vaccinatin r bster during the five-year perid preceding and at least 10 days prir t the first day f the first semester r submit an affidavit fr an exemptin. Vaccinatins lder than 5 years will require a bster. Physical Examinatin using the CTC DONAH frm must be cmpleted n mre than 90 days prir t the prgram start date. The student cmpletes the frnt page and the medical dctr (MD), dctr f stepathy (DO), physician s assistant (PA), r nurse practitiner (NP) cmpletes the back page. Please make certain that the activity level (limited r unlimited) is nted n the physical exam frm signed by the health care prvider. Current Cardipulmnary Resuscitatin (CPR)- American Heart Assciatin Health Care Prvider (BLS) and Military Training Netwrk (MTN) are the nly CPR curses that will be accepted. Yu must prvide the riginal card and a phtcpy frnt and back) nline certificatins are nt accepted. Negative 11-Panel Drug Screen cmpleted n mre than 45 days prir t the prgram start date. The DONAH nly accepts a drug screen that has been mailed, ed r faxed frm the testing agency directly t the DONAH. Negative Criminal Backgrund Check r Declaratry Order frm the Texas Bard f Nursing (TBON) cmpleted n mre than 90 days prir t the prgram start date. All criminal histry backgrund checks must be cnducted and verificatin f negative results received prir t enrllment in the ADN Prgram. Negative results fr the criminal histry backgrund check and drug screen tests will be hnred fr the duratin f the enrllment perid in the Prgram. Declaratry Orders that are unreslved 30-days prir t the first day f classes will result in the student being remved frm the enrllment list. 2

6 During prgressin yu must infrm the DONAH Chair and/r designee f any mental r physical cnditin, illness, injury, surgery, pregnancy, etc. that wuld result in a change f physical limitatin status. Safety is a pririty fr the patient and health and wellbeing f students and faculty. Failure t infrm the prgram may result in immediate withdrawal frm the curse r prgram. Medical care which results in s t u d e n t absence requires return t class/clinical/lab dcumentatin fllwing illness, injury, surgery, pregnancy, r as required by faculty. Dcumentatin must be mailed, ed, r faxed directly frm the healthcare prvider t the CTC DONAH. Current liability insurance (purchased by CTC upn admissin t the nursing prgram). Prvide receipt shwing prf f purchase f lab kit. Dcumentatin f all abve items must be submitted t the DONAH n later than 10-days (30-days fr a DO) prir t the first day f classes. Failure t prvide all dcumentatin at least 10-days (30-days fr a DO) befre the first day f classes will result in the student being remved frm the enrllment list. The student may then request t be cnsidered fr admissin the fllwing semester. The prspective student will als sign a statement agreeing t: 1. Infrm the Chair, Department f Nursing if criminal activity r substance abuse ccurs after the initial Criminal Histry Backgrund Check and Drug Screen, r is aware f such activity that was nt disclsed n the riginal backgrund check. Failure t disclse discverable infrmatin, which will be revealed n clinical facility and/r the FBI backgrund check as required by the TBON, may prhibit prgressin in r result in remval frm the prgram, and/r ineligibility fr licensure. 2. A fr cause drug screen when student s perfrmance, cnduct, r ther actin indicates pssible substance use. 3. Prvide a birth certificate, U.S. passprt, naturalizatin certificate, permanent alien card r ther dcuments if required by the clinical facility. Allcatin f Cst Each prspective student must bear the cst f all the abve requirements. Neither the Cllege nr the clinical facilities prvide medical cverage r wrkmen s cmpensatin fr emergency illness r injury. Medical cverage is the respnsibility f the student. Time Frames Please nte the eligibility determinatin takes a minimum f 3-6 mnths. Disclsure f a psitive criminal backgrund will require the student t cmplete a Declaratry Order (DO) thrugh the TBON- which may take 90-days r mre t reslve. The prspective student fr a DONAH nursing prgram will nt be cnsidered fr enrllment until the Declaratry Order utcmes (in the case f a psitive criminal histry backgrund check) are received, by the Chair Department f Nursing and Allied Health, frm the prspective student/tbon. Reslutin f Declaratry Orders must be received n later than 30-days prir t the first day f classes r the student will be remved frm the enrllment list. The student may then request t be cnsidered fr admissin the fllwing semester. There are questins n the Texas Bard f Nursing (TBON) Applicatin fr Licensure regarding criminal cnvictins, treatment fr mental illness, and alchl r drug addictin/ treatment. The TBON may deny licensure t individuals with previus prblems in ne r mre f these areas. Additinal Need t Knw Infrmatin: Students withut any prir nursing curses are required t cmplete the Nursing prgram within three years f first enrllment in RNSG 1413 r its equivalent. Transfer students are required t cmplete the nursing prgram within 2 years f first time enrllment. Students will be required t attend three mandatry rientatins t fulfill DONAH admissin requirements. In the furth semester f the ADN curriculum (the final semester f the Prgram), students are required t take an exit natinally nrmed cmprehensive examinatin as part f the final grade. This examinatin is predictive f success n the NCLEX-RN. ADN Transfer Student Plicy The Transfer student must meet general admissin requirements f CTC and the DONAH: Paperwrk must be n file 6 mnths prir t the start date f the semester yu are requesting entry. Apply in writing t the CTC ADN Admissins and Standards Cmmittee requesting admissin t the Prgram. Submit fficial r unfficial transcripts shwing cmpleted nursing curses alng with grades. Nursing cursewrk cannt be ver tw years ld. Prvide CTC DONAH with tw fficial letters frm the dean/directr f previus nursing schl and last clinical prfessr validating safe nursing practice. Prvide a syllabus r learning guide fr each curse requested fr transfer credit t the nursing department. These dcuments must detail: curse cntent, credit hurs, lab hurs, clinical hurs, and skills. Acknwledge that placement in the nursing prgram will be dependent upn space availability and recmmendatins frm the ADN Admissins and Standards Cmmittee. A student dismissed frm a previus nursing prgram fr unsafe clinical practice will nt be cnsidered fr admissin. Once all requirements have been met yur recrd will be reviewed, and the final decisin t accept r deny admissin as well as yur curse placement and start date will be left with the Admissins and Standards Cmmittee. A letter granting transfer credit des nt serve as acceptance int the CTC ADN prgram. All ther DONAH General Admissin requirements must be met as well in rder t be cnsidered fr full admissin. Must cmplete 25% f the degree plan at CTC t meet residency requirements. Transfer students must take all f their Semester IV curses at CTC. Cmplete the ADN Prgram within tw years f enrllment in yur first RNSG curse. After enrllment, a transfer student wh des nt successfully cmplete any nursing curse r withdraws frm a nursing curse with a failing average will adhere t the readmissin plicy as detailed under Readmissin Plicy. ADN Prgressin Requirements In rder t prgress in bth nursing prgrams the fllwing requirements must be met: Achievement f a grade f C r higher in all curses in the curriculum including general educatin and nursing curses. Achievement f a minimum 75 percent curse average r higher in all ADN nursing curses Achieve a minimum f 90% n dsage calculatin exams within 3 attempts, in the clinical curses prir t the secnd Friday f the semester in rder t administer medicatins and t prgress in the curse. Successfully cmplete prerequisites t each nursing curse. Cmplete c-requisites prir t r cncurrently with nursing curses. If withdrawal ccurs fr any reasn frm any f the c-requisite nursing curses, withdrawal frm the crrespnding clinical curse (Clinical Nursing I, II, III, r, IV) is required. 4

8 Successfully cmplete all curses in each semester f the curriculum befre prgressing t the next semester curses. Maintain current CPR certificatin AHA guidelines BLS fr Health Care Prviders r Military Training Netwrk. Prvide dcumentatin f medical release t the DONAH t return t class/clinical/lab after mental r physical cnditin, illness, injury, surgery, and pregnancy, break in clinical etc. that wuld result in a change f the physical limitatins status. Failure t infrm the prgram may result in immediate withdrawal frm the curse r prgram. Dcumentatin must be mailed, ed, r faxed, directly frm the healthcare prvider t the DONAH. Prvide annual dcumentatin f negative results fr TB. If histry f psitive TB, then a negative chest x-ray must be current and updated each year. Prvide prf f an annual influenza vaccinatin by Octber 1 st. Maintain negative 11 panel drug screen and criminal backgrund check. Cmplete all standardized assessment and exit tests as required by the curse syllabus. Cmplete the ADN prgram within three years f first enrllment in RNSG 1413 r its equivalent Demnstrate prfessinal behavir in the classrm and clinical and lab in accrdance with CTC Plicy and the, the Texas Nursing Practice Act, and the TBON rules and regulatins relating t nursing educatin, licensure and practice. Failure t adhere t these standards may result in disciplinary actin which culd include dismissal frm the prgram. ADN Readmissin Plicy Readmissin t any nursing curse is dependent upn availability f class penings after current class prgressin; it is nt autmatic. Students must meet the current general admissin/prgressin requirements fr DONAH and their specific nursing track. Students must prvide current physical, immunizatin, criminal backgrund and drug screen infrmatin. P rf f physical examinatin r diagnstic tests as recmmended r required t include physicians return t class/clinical dcumentatin after illness, injury, surgery, r pregnancy etc. will be required. Any student wh is requesting readmissin t a clinical curse, r wh experiences a break frm clinical fr any reasn will be required t prvide a Student Nurse Medical Release Return t Class/Clinical/Lab frm befre being allwed t participate in a clinical curse. The medical evaluatin must take place within the 30-day perid immediately prir t the first day f the semester fr readmissin students. If a student des nt successfully cmplete any nursing curse r withdraws frm a nursing curse with a failing average, the student may apply fr readmissin t the Nursing Prgram ne time. Students wh fail frm the prgram may reapply after 3 years unless failure was due t a safety issue r unprfessinal c n d u c t. Cnsideratin fr readmissin is based n the fllwing: Faculty/team recmmendatin. Academic grade average and clinical evaluatin. Reasn(s) fr failure, if applicable, r withdrawal. Reslutin f utside extenuating circumstances, if applicable. Cmpletin f remedial wrk and/r Admissins & Standards Cmmittee requirements. An interview f the student may be recmmended by the A&S Cmmittee. Any student applying fr readmissin t the nursing prgram must request readmissin, in writing, with the Admissins and Standards Cmmittee which includes a written plan fr success. If a student has a previus RNSG curse failure, they will be permitted t register fr nly ne RNSG curse during a Summer sessin. Exceptins t this plicy will be made n an individual basis thrugh the Admissin & Standards Cmmittee recmmendatins.
