General Requirements Applicants fr Cmpetitive Entry Prgrams in Nursing and Allied Health must satisfy minimum criteria in rder t be eligible fr cnsideratin f ranking. ADN Nursing applicants are required t meet all the fllwing: Enrlled at Odessa Cllege as a Credit Student Successful cmpletin f TEAS test-the Test f Essential Academic Skills Cmpletin f an nline Health Careers Orientatin when available. Cmpletin f all Prerequisite Curses listed n active Degree Plan with a C r better Minimum cumulative GPA f 2.5 is required t submit applicatin, GPA fr pints will be based n the general educatin curses cmpleted within the nursing prgram plan f study. Must be TSI Cllege ready. (Fr mre inf please cntact Odessa Cllege Admissins ffice.) Submit all previus cllege/university transcripts prir t ranking. Freign Students: Transliteratin f all freign cursewrk is required. Odessa Cllege Students: Nursing Secretary can btain an internal cpy f Odessa Cllege student applicant s transcripts upn verbal request. Must have a High Schl Diplma r GED.

Test can be taken three times in an applicatin cycle. There must be a tw weeks waiting perid befre re-testing. Fur r mre attempts must be apprved by the Directr f Nursing. Scres are valid fr ne year and nly the mst recent scres qualify t be used fr ranking. Deliver test scre t the nursing ffice nce yu cmplete the test t discuss yur results. TEAS-test Assessment Minimum Cmpsite scre must be within the prficiency range beginning at 58.7% Cmpsite scres are the result f testing in all fur subject areas in ne sitting Cmpsite scres cannt be met by cmbining prir individual subject scres Official scres must cntain all fur (4) subject areas (English and Language Usage, Math, Reading, and Science). Cntact the Directr f Nursing fr TEAS testing and re-testing guidelines Ranking Prtcls It is highly recmmended that all prerequisite curses be cmpleted prir t ranking t be cmpetitive. Curse substitutins fr prerequisite curses must be directed t the Directr f Nursing in advance f the Ranking Deadlines. The ranking GPA is calculated based n the fllwing curses: BIOL 2401 Anatmy & Physilgy I (Maximum f three attempts allwed) BIOL 2402 Anatmy & Physilgy II (Maximum f three attempts allwed) ENGL 1301 English Cmpsitin HUMA Chice f 4 curses (must be ne f fur listed) PSYC 2314 Lifespan Grwth and Develpment Deadlines fr Cmpleting Specialized Admissins Requirements Applicatin deadline fr the Fall Semester is May 1 st thrugh June 1 st, and fr the Spring Semester is Octber 1 st thrugh 20 th. Pre-prgram Specific Requirements Applicants fr specialized prgrams must als meet all pre-prgram specific requirements prir t qualifying fr ranking. The fllwing is required fr all applicants:

3 Cmplete a Nursing Specialized Admissins Orientatin in persn r n-line when available. Maintain current CPR card (nline certificatin is nt accepted). Meet current immunizatin requirements. Rubella (German measles) ne dse r shw immunity n a screening titer. Rubela (Measles) if brn befre January 1, 1957 ne dse; if brn after January 1, 1957 tw dses r shw immunity n a screening titer. Mumps ne dse r shw immunity n a screening titer Hepatitis B three dses r shw immunity n a screening titer Pli all students encuraged t have immunizatin. Chicken Px (Varicella) tw dses are needed. In lieu f vaccine, histry f illness must be validated in writing by physician r schl nurse. Immunity n a screening titer is acceptable. Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine-if first time cllege student Substitute Tdap fr Td nce, then Td bster every 10 years (prevents whping cugh) Students are required t have a PPD screening prir t entry int prgram and prir t 2nd year (must nt expire during curse f Fall and Spring semester). Our clinical affiliate requires the PPD t be within 3 mnths f entering the clinical facility, this may require that students have mre than ne PPD per year. Flu vaccine required during flu seasn. Prvide prf f health insurance which must be maintained thrughut the prgram. Additinal Infrmatin Official Ranking Dates: June 2 10 th, Octber th, r after all infrmatin is cllected. Prgram Start Dates: Fall & Spring Maximum Students Admitted: 20 students in the Fall Semester and the Spring Semester (unless therwise nted) A student has three years t cmplete the Assciate Degree in Nursing after fficial enrllment in the first Assciate Degree Nursing curse. Students will be expected t pay the fees that are assciated with ATI standardized testing. Backgrund Check and Substance Abuse Screening are Pst Admissins requirements. Pst Admissins Requirements Students are respnsible fr the fllwing requirements AFTER accepting a seat in the prgram: PROGRAM ORIENTATION: ne day in persn rientatin.

4 CLINICAL ORIENTATION (Online): Renew every year. HIPAA TRAINING: HIPAA Access Online Renew every year. Unifrms, Specialized Equipment, Lab Supplies and Liability Insurance required fr clinical. BACKGROUND CHECK: This requirement will be cmpleted by each student. Upn qualificatin int the prgram, yur name is submitted t the Texas Bard f Nursing fr the first backgrund check. The student will nt be able t g t the clinical areas r health care facilities until cleared. Fingerprinting with a backgrund check frm FBI is required by BON prir t entry int the nursing prgram. Please wait fr instructins t start this prcess frm the Nursing Department. An applicant wh feels that they might have a backgrund issue is strngly advised t begin the Declaratry Order (DO) prcess with the Texas BON befre applying t the prgram because they must be cleared by the TBON befre the start f classes. SUBSTANCE ABUSE SCREENING: Students wh cannt participate in clinical rtatins due t adverse activities revealed thrugh substance abuse testing cannt cmplete curse r prgram requirements. Students wh fail t btain clearance may be prhibited frm admissin r enrllment in specified prgrams/curses. Pint Ranking System As part f the admissin criteria, the pint values fr all nursing applicants will be ttaled. A rank rdered list f nursing applicants by pint ttal will be develped. The applicants with the highest number f pints will be admitted int the nursing prgram each semester until all available spts are filled. Alternates: Tw alternates will be chsen and will cmplete all required elements in rder t be ready shuld a psitin becme available. Ties: In the event f a tie, the applicant will be chsen based n the student with the highest verall science GPA related t Anatmy and Physilgy I & II, in the event f tie in this area the final tie break will be highest verall Graduatin GPA. Pints are calculated based upn the fllwing criteria: Grade Pint Average (GPA): A cumulative grade pint average f 2.5 (4.0 system) will be based n the general educatin curses cmpleted within the nursing prgram plan f study fr the pint system. The cllege applicant s GPA is based n cmpletin f 14 semester credit hurs GPA will be determined in the fllwing manner: GPA Pints Awarded

A ttal f three attempts are allwed fr the TEAS test, but the third attempt requires advance permissin frm the Directr f Nursing. Each area is wrth pints as listed belw. A maximum f 16 pints can be earned.
