3 CENTRAL TEXAS COLLEGE Vocational Nursing (VN) Program The Vocational Nursing Program is a traditional one-year credit program involving 3 consecutive semesters or 12 months of study. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to become candidates for the NCLEX-PN for licensure. The candidate who successfully passes the NCLEX-PN may practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. The Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing (TBON). Classroom instruction is conducted on the campus of Central Texas College. Clinical instruction takes place in various hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and long term care facilities in Killeen, Harker Heights, Temple, Gatesville, and Copperas Cove. Clinical hours/sites may vary as to day or evening shift. Program Hours and Locations The program is divided into a classroom portion and a clinical portion. The classroom hours are generally from 8:00am to 4:50pm Monday-Thursday and 8:00am-12:00pm on Fridays. Classrooms are located in the Nursing/Science, Bldg 155, on Central Campus. The clinical hours are usually 6:30am to 2:30pm or 1:00pm to 9:00pm. Space in clinical courses is limited. All students may be expected to work the evening shift at some time during the program. Students will register for the clinical that corresponds to the current semester; the specific facility and the hours will be determined before the end of the first 8 weeks of the semester. Clinical locations are in the Killeen, Copperas Cove, Harker Heights, Gatesville and Temple area. You will need to have your own transportation, as CTC does not provide transportation for clinical rotations. Clinical sites and rotation times are subject to change.
