1 Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram Descriptin (Keep this page fr yur reference) The Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram prepares graduates t use their skill and knwledge t fulfill the rle f the nurse: Enhance human flurishing, demnstrate sund nursing judgement, cntinually develp prfessinal identity, and pssess a spirit f inquiry t imprve the quality f patient care. Encmpassed within these rles are the cre cmpnents f cntext and envirnment, knwledge and science, persnal/prfessinal develpment, quality and safety, relatinship-centered care, and teamwrk. These cre cmpnents are intrduced, develped, and built upn thrugh the curriculum. Graduates are eligible t take the Natinal Cuncil Licensure Examinatin fr Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram is rganized arund a clearly defined cnceptual framewrk and cmbines general educatin and nursing curses. The nursing curses crrelate classrm and clinical instructin in a variety f cmmunity agencies.* *Transprtatin t the cmmunity agencies is the respnsibility f each student. Upn cmpletin f the prgram the student can: 1. Advcate fr patients and families in ways that prmte their self-determinatin, integrity and nging grwth as human beings (human flurishing). a. develp, implement and evaluate individualized plans f care fcusing n services and activities that prmte independence, maintain r restre health, r supprt a peaceful death; b. advcate fr the access t and quality f care fr patients; c. use teaching/learning prcesses t facilitate the patients in infrmed decisin-making t achieve psitive utcmes and supprt the client s functinal patterns; d. prvide culturally cmpetent care that demnstrates respect fr diverse patients. 2. Make judgments in practice, substantiated with evidence, that integrate nursing science in the prvisin f safe, quality-care and prmte the health f patients within a family and cmmunity cntext (nursing judgment). a. utilize the nursing prcess while incrprating Grdn s functinal health patterns as a basis fr clinical judgment t ptimize utcmes f care fr the patient, family and cmmunity; b. perfrm essential nursing skills as identified by the critical criteria; c. cllabrate with the patient, family, significant thers and members f the health care team in the management f care; d. establish and maintain effective/therapeutic cmmunicatin with patients, families, significant thers and members f the health care team; e. manage the direct prvisin f nursing care thrugh effective rganizatinal skills, apprpriate delegatin and supervisin within the scpe f practice; f. emply principles f quality and safety, healthcare plicy and cst effectiveness t imprve healthcare utcmes. 3. Implement ne s rle as a nurse in ways that reflect integrity, respnsibility, ethical practice and an evlving identity as a nurse cmmitted t evidence-based practice, caring, advcacy and safe, quality care fr diverse patients within a family and cmmunity cntext (prfessinal identity). a. recgnize situatins beynd ne's knwledge and experience and seek cnsultatin frm apprpriate resurces in a changing healthcare envirnment; b. integrate caring behavirs in managing care; c. exhibit prfessinal behavirs/practice as defined by the ethical, legal, and regulatry framewrks f nursing; d. use infrmatin and technlgy t cmmunicate, manage knwledge, mitigate errr and supprt decisin making.

Examine the evidence that underlies clinical nursing practice t challenge the status qu, questin underlying assumptins and ffer new insights t imprve the quality f care fr patients, families, and cmmunities (spirit f inquiry). a. recgnize and examine evidence-based literature/research fr use in nursing practice; b. value cntinuus learning within the nursing prfessin. Students are admitted t the prgram in the Fall Semester f each year. Cllege applicatins and class schedules are n the web at Acceptance int the Assciate Degree Nursing prgram is based n a selective admissins prcess. In rder t be cnsidered fr admissin, applicants must cmply with cllege and prgram admissin requirements prir t February 1 fr admissin t a fall NSG 101 curse. Prgressin in the Assciate Degree Nursing prgram is cntingent upn achievement f a grade f C r better in each bilgical science, nursing and mathematics curses and maintenance f a 2.0 cumulative grade pint average r better (n a 4.0 scale). Healthcare Prvider CPR requirements must be successfully cmpleted prir t enrlling in the first nursing curse and must be kept current thrughut the prgram. Dcumentatin f successful cmpletin f a minimum 75-hur nursing assistant curse, r its equivalent, and dcumentatin f digital/cmputer literacy as defined by KCTCS is required prir t enrlling in the first nursing curse. The Kentucky Bard f Nursing (KBN) may deny a nursing graduate admissin t the NCLEX-RN Exam if an individual has been cnvicted f a misdemeanr r felny that invlves acts that bear directly n the qualificatins f the graduate t practice nursing. Enrllment in the Assciate Degree Nursing prgram may be limited because f available clinical/ labratry facilities, as well as faculty and financial resurces. Admissin is pen t all qualified students regardless f ecnmic r scial status and withut discriminatin n the basis f race, clr, creed, sex, marital status, beliefs, age, natinal rigin r disability. In additin t ther qualificatins, the cllege will, in cmpliance with KCTCS regulatins and in the manner and t the extent permitted by law, endeavr t prvide pprtunities t all students in rder t prmte diversity amng the student ppulatin in the Assciate Degree Nursing prgram. The fee schedule can be fund in the ACTC catalg and n the Assciate Degree Nursing Website. In additin t tuitin, Assciate Degree Nursing students are respnsible fr transprtatin t varius health agencies, purchase f bks and nline resurces, purchase f liability insurance, purchase f unifrms and ther required supplies. All students admitted t the prgram are required t submit dcumentatin f immunizatins, including but nt limited t Hepatitis-B, MMR and results f a recent TB test. Students enrlled in nursing curses are als required t cmplete a drug screen and backgrund check arranged thrugh the prgram at their expense in rder t participate in learning at varius clinical sites.
