Clinical Quality Improver: We had a notable improvement in one of more clinical measures. Enhancing Access to Care: We increased the number of patients we serve. Muhammad Ali Blvd Save The Date! Seven times a day, someone in this country dies in a home fire. The American Red Cross has launched a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent by We re joining with fire departments and community groups nationwide to canvass neighborhoods, install smoke alarms and deliver fire prevention information in places we know have high numbers of fires. The Red Cross is also asking every household in America to join us in taking these two simple steps that can save lives: check your existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home. Thus far in the Kentucky area our efforts have saved a documented 27 lives. This number is only the beginning of the number saved as the weeks, months and years go by. Home Fire Campaign Volunteers Needed Volunteers work in teams to assist with canvassing pre-selected neighborhoods for smoke alarms, providing fire safety education to families, and installing free smoke alarms/replacing batteries where needed. All skillsets are needed and welcome! We are also in need of volunteers who would like to assist with logistics and event management on installation days. Supplies and training are provided on site. 9 Louisville Metro Animal Services & Kentucky Humane Society offer low-cost vaccine clinics for dog flu, in the Portland Neighborhood $10 vaccines - Aug. 24 and Sept. 7 from 4:00 pm to -7:00 pm My Dog Eats First headquarters, 2509 Portland Avenue Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) and the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) are teaming up to offer local dog owners $10 vaccines against canine influenza, or dog flu. The low-cost vaccine clinics will take place Thursdays August 24 and September 7 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 p.m. at My Dog Eats First headquarters, 2509 Portland Avenue in Louisville. Two vaccines spaced 2-4 weeks apart are needed to reach full effectiveness. Dogs that attend the Aug. 24 clinic should return on Sept. 7 for their second vaccine. Both vaccines cost $10 each. The vaccine clinic is made possible by support from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Canine influenza in the Louisville area was first detected in June. Since then, a number of local veterinarians, dog owners, boarding facilities and shelters have reported confirmed cases. District 5 Junk Pick-Up Week of August 28th - Set-Out Junk Days, August 25th - 27th Junk Set-Out Guidelines - What to set out when, where and how: Near but clearly separated from usual trash collection point Before 6 AM on Monday of collection week but no earlier than 4 PM on the Friday before collection week. Civil penalties from $100 to $1000 per day apply to each violation, as well as criminal prosecution and cost of cleanup. Bundle small items or put them in plastic bags loaded weight below 60 pounds. Do not use garbage cans or cardboard boxes. Tree branches and brush limited to 4 inches in diameter. They must be no more than four foot long and must be separated from other items Doors must be removed from large appliances such as refrigerators and freezers. No more than four tires per residence. Environmental AmeriCorps Position Openings Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation is looking seeking 14 AmeriCorps members for the following four positions: Land Management Technician, Education Program Assistant, and Volunteer Program Assistant.
