3 City's External Agency Fund Applications are Now Open Grants available to social services and arts and creative industry organizations Louisville Metro Government began accepting applications for External Agency Fund grants Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 8 a.m. for the service period of FY19 (July 1, June 30, 2019). These General Fund grants are awarded to non-profit, non-governmental, or "external, agencies that contribute to the city's cultural, social and economic vitality. All agencies wishing to submit an application are required to have at least one representative participate in a mandatory application orientation. The mandatory orientation is available on the External Agency Fund (EAF) website at and will provide information about the deadlines, how to access the application and general information about the application. The grants are available for Social Services programs, administered by the Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS), and for Arts and Creative Industries programs, administered by the Louisville Metro Department of Economic Development. The External Agency Fund grants are awarded annually to non-profit organizations offering programs or services in Louisville/Jefferson County that align with the Mayor's and departments' strategic goals. For the Social Services funding program, qualified non-profits committed to providing services that achieve meaningful outcomes for Louisville citizens in the following key areas are encouraged to apply: Decreasing homelessness Increasing household financial stability Increasing youth, teen, and/or young adult engagement in quality programming; or Increasing access to services and resources for a targeted population. 3

5 Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services Annual Needs Assessment We need your input as a citizen of Louisville Metro! The Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services is gathering information through the 2018 Community Needs Assessment, a tool which helps the agency make the best use of available federal, state, and local resources by targeting funds and strategies based on the areas identified as having the greatest needs in our community. This survey will help RCS prioritize funding and create innovative strategies to meet the needs of low and moderate income individuals in our city. Please take a moment to complete this brief but important survey here, or at ( Resilience and Community Services encompasses Neighborhood Place, Self-Sufficiency Services, housing programs for formerly homeless individuals, volunteer programs like Foster Grandparent Program and RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program), Outreach and Advocacy Offices including the Office of Youth Development, Senior Services including Meals on Wheels, and several other programs. Since 2012, BMe has awarded more $2 million to men who are deeply committed to the well-being of others and are making a substantial positive impact on communities across the country. The network is currently accepting applications from black men who are social entrepreneurs, innovators, and difference-makers in greater Akron, Louisville, Miami, or Pittsburgh. Through the program, recipients will receive up to $10,000 each to build on the good they are already doing within their communities and, ultimately, to help create a more caring and prosperous region through their efforts. 9 Aetna Foundation Awards $25,000 prize to City for West Louisville Outdoor Recreational Initiative Louisville is one of 10 community health programs across the nation to receive the Aenta Foundation s Spotlight Award and a $25,000 prize. Louisville was chosen as one of the 10 best cities for a program called The West Louisville Outdoor Initiative, which implements innovative solutions fo rpublic health issues. The program is designed to connect residents with nature to improve physical and mental health while reducing stress and deterring crime. So far the program has worke with 955 youth, and looks to grow. The prize money will be used to further expand this program. Councilwoman Hamilton and Jonathan Copley, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Kentucky, hold the Spotlight Award at the press conference on January 31. Western Library Activities (604 South 10th Street) Louisville Metro Council Community Affairs and Housing Committee Kicks Off Vacant and Abandoned Property Series February 12 beginning at 1:30pm Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse (460 Northwestern Parkway) Metro Council s Community Affairs and Housing Committee has announced the first in a series of meetings to update Louisville s progress in dealing with vacant and abandoned property in Metro Louisville. The committee is encouraging the public to come out and meet with staff from Metro Louisville s Vacant and Public Property Administration. The office has recently implemented new programs designed to help with the purchase of abandoned property along with helping improve the appearance of vacant buildings in neighborhoods with problems properties. The Freedom Quilt (February 5, 12, 19, and 26) - Join us every Monday at the Western Library (604 South 10th Street) during Black History Month to add a piece of your creativity into our freedom quilt. African American Archives Tours (February 9 at 1:00 pm, February 12 at 2:00 pm, February 17 at 1:00 pm, and February 26 at 2:00pm) - The Western Library is the first in the United States to serve and be fully operated by African Americans. Join us at the Western Library (604 South 10th Street) for a tour and experience the African American Archives, browse through history, and watch the documentary A Separate Flame. Western s Writing Workshop (Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm, and Tuesdays from 3:00pm - 5:00pm) - All ages are invited to come to the Western Library (604 South 10th Street) to learn how to become better readers and writers from tutors trained by the University of Louisville Writing Center. 10 City's HUD Grant Applications Now Being Accepted Public meeting for questions Monday, February 5 at 10:00 am Louisville Metro Government is now accepting applications from local non-profits for programs or activities funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Fiscal Year 2019 (July 1, June 30, 2019). HUD-funded grants include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA). These grants are administered locally by Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS) and guided by a 5-year strategic Consolidated Plan as well as the annual Action Plan. Resilience and Community Services FY19 FY20 Goals are: End chronic homelessness; End homelessness for families and youth; Serve homeless and low-income persons with HIV/AIDS Community Development Block Grant Public Service CDBG Public Service grants will run from July 1, 2018 June 30, The average CDBG award equals approximately $40,000. For CDBG Public Service funds, RCS will give preference to applications for activities that include: Increasing case management capacity focusing on transitioning homeless individuals into housing; Connecting homeless families and/or youth to housing and supportive services through outreach; Increasing case management capacity focusing on self-sufficiency; and/or Recruitment of residential property owners and managers to increase access to housing for families and individuals exiting homelessness. Emergency Solutions Grant ESG grants require a 100% match to awarded funds. ESG grants will run from July 1, 2018 June 30, The average ESG award equals approximately $46,000. RCS will give preference to applications for activities that include: Increasing the number of emergency shelter beds available; Increasing case management capacity focusing on transitioning homeless individuals into housing; Rapidly rehousing homeless individuals and families; and/or Providing outreach to families and/or youth to exit homelessness. Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS HOPWA grants will run from July 1, 2018 June 30, The average HOPWA award equals approximately $180,000. HOPWA funds may be used for activities for individuals with HIV/AIDS which include, but are not limited to: Supportive services; Rental assistance; and/or Short-term payments to prevent homelessness.
