The deadline to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is now Saturday, April 30th. LIHEAP Crisis operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Broadway My Brother s Keeper - Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Cost: $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth The Catholic Enrichment Center of the Archdiocese of Louisville s Office of Multicultural Ministry and its Male Initiative will offer another session in the My Brother s Keeper program on The topics will be Law Enforcement and You, Part II, and Expungement. The presenters will be Shaun A. Wimberly, Sr., Attorney and Counselor at Law, Aubrey Williams and Associates and Marque G. Carey, Attorney and Counselor at Law, Smith & Carey Attorneys at Law. Junk Set Out and Junk Pick-Up Dates Attention Shawnee, Chickasaw, Portland, & Russell Residents & Junk Set Out Dates: Friday, April 8th - Tuesday, April 12th & Junk Pick-Up Dates: Monday, April 11th - Friday, April 15th It s that time of year again! Junk Set Out and Pick-Up dates have been released by Public Works and are available online. In order to find out Set Out and Pick-Up dates for your zip code, please visit and enter your address. What to set out when, where and how: Before 6 AM on Monday of collection week but no earlier than 4 PM on the Friday before collection week. Civil penalties from $100 to $1000 per day apply to each violation, as well as criminal prosecution and cost of cleanup. Bundle small items or put them in plastic bags loaded weight below 60 pounds. Do not use garbage cans or cardboard boxes. Tree branches and brush limited to 4 inches in diameter. They must be no more than four foot long and must be separated from other items Doors must be removed from large appliances such as refrigerators and freezers. 2

To register please call Naloxone Kits and Training Session Monday, April 18th from 11 am to 2 pm 400 East Gray Street The Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition will offer free Naloxone kits and a training session in April. Naloxone (also referred to by its brand name, Narcan) reverses the effects of overdose from heroin and other opioid drugs to prevent death. The training session will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 18, at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, located at 400 E. Gray St. No registration or advance notice is required to attend the sessions. Training sessions and free Naloxone kits are limited to individual members of the general public who are using opioids, or who have family members or loved ones with an opiod addiction. Metro Parks to Host Public Meeting Concerned about a park or a park-related issue in District 5? Monday, April 18th - 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm District 5 Neighborhood Advisory Committee will not meet this night and the community is encouraged to attend this meeting. Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation will be hosting a public meeting on Monday, April 18th from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Shawnee Golf Course Clubhouse, 460 Northwestern Parkway. The public is encouraged to come and weigh in on any topic. The meetings will typically start with a brief presentation and question and answer session facilitated by Director Steve Ghose. 3

6 Registration for the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Spring Community-Wide Cleanup is Open Form a team for April 16th now! Help Clean-Up District 5 Form a Team! Registration for the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Spring Community Wide Clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 16th with the suggested cleanup times of 8:00am 12:00pm. Supply pick up will be held on Sunday, April 10th at the Iroquois Park Amphitheater, 1080 Amphitheater Rd from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. As in the past, Brightside will recognize groups conducting cleanups in the weeks prior and after April 16th. All supplies are pre-packaged by group for team leaders to collect. If a group fails to pick up their supplies on April 10, and they have t-shirts, the t-shirts go to other volunteers on a first come, first served basis. Groups who do not have t-shirts can call Brightside on Tuesday, April 12th to see if any t-shirts have been returned. Brightside welcomes all groups, large and small, to participate in the cleanup. Simply register your group online. All cleanup teams will receive bags and gloves at no cost, and the first 5,000 volunteers to register will also receive a free t-shirt. Brightside welcomes groups of all sizes, big and small and if you're not sure where you would like to hold your cleanup we can help with that too, just give us a call or send us an and we will be happy to make a suggestion. For more information please visit MSD Receives GRANT FUNDS for Flood Mitigation Public Meeting re: FEMA grant for Wewoka-West Park Neighborhood Shawnee Golf Course Conference Room Northwestern Pkwy Thursday, April 21st at 6:00 pm The affected homeowners and tenants in the approved area should have received letters from MSD inviting you to attend a meeting to discuss the new FEMA grant for the Wewoka West Park neighborhood on Thursday, April 21st at 6:00 pm at the Shawnee Golf Course in the Conference Room. The grant was approved by FEMA to purchase 48 homes in this neighborhood to mitigate the flooding issues. Your questions and concerns about this grant are welcome! Residents of the Greater Louisville Region are invited to take part in an online survey related to the development of a Master Plan for the Arts. The public is encouraged to share their thoughts, hopes and desires for the future of arts and culture in our community through the completion of a short, anonymous online survey, open now through midnight on Saturday, April 30. Home Repair Programs are designed to help low-income Metro homeowners who cannot afford necessary home repairs such as: emergency electrical and plumbing issues, heating systems during the winter, air conditioning during the summer (medical reasons only), lead hazard, and improvements for energy efficiency. To be eligible for Home Repair Programs, your household income must fall within the appropriate income requirements for each home repair program. You must have owned and lived in the home for at least one year. Participants in the programs must agree to continue to live in the home for up to five years and maintain the property taxes and insurance. Approved contractors will bid on home repairs. For more information please call West Louisville FoodPort Job Fair Carpenters, electricians, laborers, landscapers and more are sought for late summer construction at West Louisville FoodPort On Tuesday, April 26th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm the West Louisville FoodPort will host a job fair at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, located at 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Boulevard. FoodPort general contractor Messer Construction is expected to achieve project sponsor Seed Capital KY's goals to utilize minority-owned businesses at a rate of at least 20 percent and woman-owned businesses at a rate of 5 percent. The first phase of the FoodPort is expected to create 150 temporary construction jobs and 200 permanent jobs. Construction work envisioned for FoodPort Phase One include landscaping, paving, excavation, surveying, plumbing, painting and more. As a result, jobs include surveyors, heavy equipment operators, laborers, carpenters, roofers, and other construction trades, including plumbers, electricians and iron workers. The Twitter hashtag #502pothole, and a form on the city s website allow citizens to report potholes without waiting on hold on the telephone. Using Twitter to report a pothole in Louisville is simple. Start with the hashtag, #502pothole. Add the address or intersection nearest to the pothole, and send the tweet. The city will take it from there. 9

LGTC was founded initially to provide this years Portland Elementary Kindergarteners and First Graders with enough money to attend some college or to get a professional certificate (after high school graduation or GED). The program funds also provide an opportunity for families to co-invest and save for their child s future educational goals. Starting with Portland Elementary s Spring 2016 Kindergarten and First Grade class, the Louisville Goes to College Fund will deposit $100 per year into a savings account in each students name. This $100 deposit will be made each and every year for the next 12 to 13 years for the benefit of each student s higher education.
