This phase is where we will be ironing the wrinkles out, so when fully deployed and operational we would have mitigated most of the bottlenecks associated with the network. It will be implemented at the Shawnee Arts snd Cultural Center and cover a 600 to 800 feet radius on the exterior of this facility. If you are within these boundaries during this test phase you will be able to access the internet wirelessly for free. Once fully operational this network will cover from 9th Street (East) to the Ohio River (West) between the Ohio River (North) and Algonquin Parkway (South) making it the largest contiguous FREE indoor/outdoor wireless network in Kentucky; providing access for 60 to 80,000 West Louisville residents, businesses and visitors. The team engineering the network consists of Cisco (the world s largest ICT hardware company), Metro s Technology Department, Jefferson County Public School s Technology Services, the University of Louisville s Speed School and I. This effort will engage a cadre of Technopreneurs, a group of young adults between the ages of 9-24 (all West Louisville residents) who will own/operate as well as help maintain, promote, and install the network. The network will be a huge benefit to the schools; elementary to high school children can be outfitted with ipads and laptops (to help them with their studies), offering them a high-speed, secure alternative network to turn to when their family cannot afford a paid Internet subscription. If you have a child that fits the above description and would like for him/her to develop/ further their technology skills and help with setting-up this network, have them text I am interested to (502) and someone will respond! 7
