The Divisin may emply caretakers as unin r nn-unin staff r cntract ut custdial services t independent cntractrs as per the agreement with the C.U.P.E. Lcal. Directly Reprts T: Principal r Building Operatr In-Directly Reprts: Caretaker Crdinatr Duties & Respnsibilities A caretaker shall act under the directin f and shall be respnsible t the principal. The caretaker shall rdinarily wrk in clse assciatin with the Caretaker Crdinatr and shall accept reasnable directin and requests n a functinal basis. Furthermre, the caretaker shall perfrm any respnsible wrk assigned t them by the principal fr the welfare f the schl r the cnvenience f the staff. The duties f a caretaker shall be thse usually assciated with the general care, upkeep, and maintenance f the schl plant, the schl grunds and the schl equipment. The entire schl must be thrughly clean and furniture dusted fr pening schl day f each term and kept in this cnditin each day schl is in sessin during the year. Assist in the peratin and checks f building mechanical systems.(i.e. heating/biler systems). Washrms and fixtures are t be kept in a gd state f cleanliness and prper wrking rder at all times. Grunds are t be free f debris at all times. All cultivated areas and decrative areas shall be kept neat and free f weeds. Decrative lawn shall be cut regularly. Playgrund inspectins are t be dne regularly. Prmptly make all minr repairs that may be required in and arund the schl building that d nt require special equipment r technical skill; similar in nature expected in the maintenance f a residence, which includes basic plumbing repairs, basic carpentry, and minr painting. Damage t furniture, fixtures r building are t be reprted t the principal immediately. Assure that all fire extinguishers are in place and in prper wrking rder. All cnditins with regard t fire prtectin shall be reprted t the principal. Steps and sidewalks are t be kept free f ice and snw. T be respnsible t see that the schl is unlcked fr the arrival fr students in the mrning and see that the schl is lcked at night.

2 Practice safe wrk habits at all times. Participate in scheduled in-services pertaining t the perfrmance f facilities caretaking. Withut restricting the generality f the general descriptin abve, the caretaker shall perfrm such duties and respnsibilities as may be assigned including but nt restricted t the fllwing: Opening Duties Ensure schl is pened and lights are turned n daily as arranged with the Principal. Open all access gates. Raise Canadian flag. Check furnaces/ air handling units t ensure they are perating. Vacuum all entrance rugs. Daily Duties Disinfect all high tuch areas regularly and thrughly as schedule permits. (drways, light switches, dr knbs, phnes, cmputers, funtains/clers, etc.). Disinfect tables and furniture in elementary rms and ther pertinent lcatins such as eating areas. Clean and disinfect washrm tilets, urinals, stalls, sinks, funtains, mirrrs, cunters, dispensers, and flrs. Dry mp all rms, hallways, gymnasium and stage areas. Wet mp any/all spills. Damp mp/ vacuum entrances and entrance matting. Vacuum all carpets/rugs. Empty all garbage cans and replace bags in all rms and haul t the garbage bin. Wipe/wash dwn all bt racks. Clean cmmn areas which includes washing all tables and dry r wet mpping flrs. Wipe ff all stains/ mud etc. n walls as required. Wash and plish interir windws, entrance dr glass and side light glass panels Check and refill all paper twel, tilet paper and sap dispensers regularly. Clsing Duties Lwer and remve Canadian Flag. Ensure schl is lcked (inside and ut) and all windws are clsed. Ensure all lights are turned ff as arranged with the Principal. Shut ff fans. Turn n all exterir lighting. Weekly Duties (in additin t daily duties) Thrughly disinfect washrm/change rm stalls, walls and shwers. Wash all desks, tables, ledges, etc. as arranged with staff in all classrms and ffices. Wash dwn whitebards, clean blackbards, ledges and brushes. Cmplete thrugh sweeping/ mpping f facility. Wash hallways and ther high traffic areas with flr scrubber every 2-3 days r as required. 3 Wash dwn micrwaves, water clers, cunters, etc. Wash gymnasium flr. Vacuum and tidy stage areas, equipment rms, etc. Clean sinks in labs, art rms, etc. Wipe dwn teacher desks if they are cleaned ff. Sweep and wash dwn flrs and cunters in canteen areas (if applicable). Submit maintenance requests t Principal t be added nt FAME. Mnthly Duties (in additin t weekly duties) Thrugh washing f hallway walls, drways, entrances and any siled areas. Damp mp, plish and buff/burnish all flrs. Dust trphy cases and clean glass. Vacuum / wipe dwn teacher, student and staff rm chairs. Clean all electrnic equipment DVD players, TV s, cmputers, etc. Wash frnts and tps f lckers. Wash dwn windws and windw cverings. Thrughly clean and rganize caretaker rms, supply areas and furnace/biler rms. Order supplies (every three mnths r as directed by facilities management). Replace burnt ut light bulbs as required. D minr maintenance repairs. Exterir Duties Maintain the utside perimeter f the schl(grass cutting, weeds, debris, etc). Ensure entrances and sidewalks are cleared t the surface f debris/snw/ice. Inspect r assist in inspectin f playgrund equipment and surfaces. Pick up debris, garbage, and brken glass frm paved and cemented areas. Duties during weekly schl breaks Scrub and refinish all flrs using prcedures recmmended by facilities dept. Thrugh cleaning f all ceiling diffusers and light fixtures. Thrugh cleaning and disinfecting f washrms and change rms. Shamp/steam clean rugs as required. Clean under and behind fridges, stves, vending machines, etc. Duties during summer hlidays Thrugh wash dwn f entire schl including lckers, cupbards, desks, furniture, etc. Tuch up painting n shelving, cupbards, under chalk bards as required. Clean and wash ut the inside f students desks. Scrub and refinish all flrs using prcedures recmmended by facilities dept. Light cleaning as needed the week befre schl. Thrugh cleaning and rganizing f furnace, caretaker and strage rms. Educatin & Qualificatins Minimum Grade 10 r equivalent Direct experience in the caretaking field wuld be cnsidered an asset. Cperatin & Teamwrk A caretaker must wrk cllabratively with ther caretaking staff n a daily basis. Must have the ability t be a team player and wrk independently with minimal supervisin. Attitude A caretaker must present a psitive and prfessinal attitude twards thers, their wrk, and the divisin and cnduct neself in a manner apprpriate t an educatinal institute that prvides services t children. 5 Cnfidentiality At n time shuld a Caretaker discuss in public infrmatin pertaining t emplyees, students r the peratin f the divisin. A Caretaker is expected t respect the cnfidential nature f their psitin by aviding discussin abut any tpics that are nt frmally cmmunicated t the public by the administratin f the schl r the schl divisin.
