We are ranked first verall in the East f England in the 2017 GMC survey fr paediatric training (psitive utliers fr several aspects f training) and rated gd by the CQC. We are linked in L1 training in rtatins with a variety f trust, primarily Cambridge, Nrwich and Ipswich. Many f ur previus trainees have returned t wrk in the department again, either at later stages in their training, r as cnsultants. We have a pleasant wrking envirnment, an active teaching and simulatin prgramme (and an active series f scial activities!)

3 We meet the RCPCH facing the future standards, with cnsultant presence in the department between , 7 days a week. There is a cnsultant f the week system, perating 1:12. Additinally, there is a separate 1:4 nenatal cnsultant f the week system in place where Mnday t Friday nenatal cver is prvided by cnsultants with a nenatal interest. Children s services encmpass the fllwing fr ages 0-16: Children s Ward Arund 1600 acute admissin per year 20 beds ttal, including: 10 side rms 2 HDU beds 449 HDU days in 2015/16 Prcedure rm Bld gas analyser Sensry rm Play therapy Children s elective Care 10 bedded unit prviding day medical, surgical, urlgy and ENT care. Children s assessment unit (CAU) pen 24/7 6 beds, 2 side rms and cnsulting rm Prcedure rm Open all year rund Over 6000 admissin per year (6127 in 2015/16) Children <1 year wh attend A&E are directed t CAU. Children s ED There is a dedicated children s ED, within ED, and a dedicated resus bay. There is a shared nursing pl between ED and the ward/cau. A&E prvide the primary medical cver. There are a team f paediatric ENP s wh wrk in the paeds ED. Nenatal unit (L2 NNU) 17 cts, 1 intensive care (althugh this des increase accrding t deamand), 4 high dependency, 8 special care 27 week gestatin and abve CFM machine Bld gas analyser Apprx deliveries per year.

The safeguarding clinics run daily and there are regular safeguarding peer review meetings. The department is active in audit and service imprvement and develpment. Clinics are held in the cmmunity setting, as well as in several f the lcal schls fr children with mderate/severe learning difficulties and cmplex needs. We als supprt higher specialist trainees in cmmunity paediatrics as part f GRID r spin placements.

St1-3 ST4+ The rta includes clinic weeks t allw expsure t a variety f clinics, bth with the cnsultant bdy, and with visiting specialists. There are a variety f nurse led clinics, eg allergy, enuresis, which may als be utilised t give a valuable insight int these cnditins. The rta has scheduled registrar led clinics, alngside the cnsultant cunterpart. Where trainees can experience a variety f cnditins. These clinics run either weekly, r alternate weekly, s there is plenty f chance t gain significant expsure t utpatient paediatrics We use the bighand digital dictatin system, and the secretarial team will then type the clinic letter. The ST4+ clinics are in the fllwing specialities: Baby clinics (<2 years ld and NNU fllw-ups) General clinics Respiratry paediatrics Paediatric Nephrlgy

7 We have an active teaching prgramme, with tpics that mirrr the reginal tpic f the mnth fr the ST4+ training days, delivered by a mixture f cnsultants, assciate specialists, nurse specialists, and junirs. Participatin is anticipated. We aim t facilitate attendance at reginal training days, at all levels. We participate in NPEG (Nrflk paediatric educatin grup)1/2 day training sessins mnthly vide cnference. We run a simulatin prgramme, with a mixture f planned and ad-hc in situ lw f high fidelity simulatins. 8 Travel: (please see ) Train: Clchester is the nearest rail statin, it is a 15min walk, r a few minute drive t the hspital. It is 55 minutes frm Lndn Liverpl street Car Park: Staff parking available. This can be paid fr per day r mnthly depending n requirements. We are a shrt drive frm junctin Cycling: Staffs Shwer facilities are available within the children s unit. Cycle parking and Lckers are available. Bus: The bus services 8, 8a and 65 prvide a minute frequency service frm the twn centre and Nrth Statin t Clchester General Hspital, drpping ff in Turner Rad and picking up utside the hspital s main entrance. There are many ther bus services t the twn centre frm arund and utside Clchester, which can be cmbined with the 8 and 65 t get t Clchester General Hspital. Park & Ride: Since January 2017 Clchester Park and Ride buses heading frm the site ff Junctin 28 f the A12 nw serve the new stp alng Nrthern Apprach Rad, utside the hspital.
