2 The Jseph Whitaker Schl Bursary Fund What is the Bursary Fund?? The Bursary Fund is a scheme t help yung peple facing financial hardship t stay n in full time educatin after Year 11. The Scheme cmprises tw parts: Vulnerable Bursary Or A vulnerable bursary ( 1, an academic year) fr thse mst in need f financial supprt: Discretinary Bursary A discretinal bursary is available fr thse in need f finance t help meet specific csts t enable them t stay in educatin and cmplete their curses, e.g. transprt, equipment, fieldwrk csts, specialist clthing. Eligibility A student must be aged 16 and under 19 n the 31 August in the academic year in which he/she starts a prgramme f study. A student must be n a full time prgramme f study. The Vulnerable Bursary ( 1,200.00) Students can apply fr a bursary f 1, pa if they meet ne f the fllwing criteria: In care; Lives independently having left Lcal Authrity care; Students receiving Incme Supprt; r Universal Credit in place f incme supprt in their wn right Disabled, receiving ne f either Emplyment and Supprt Allwance r Universal Credit (apart frm where this replaces Husing Benefit) alng with Disability Living Allwance r Persnal Independence Payments in their wn right

3 Discretinary Bursary Students can apply fr this grant t fund particular needs. Once apprved they will be entitled t assistance twards the cst f ne r mre f the fllwing: Transprt In mst cases this is a 50% cntributin twards travel csts Bks/equipment/materials/specialist clthing; Cmpulsry field trips 100% f cst Optinal educatinal visits linked t a curse f study 50% cntributin NOTE: Bursary des nt cver nn curriculum related visits like New Yrk r Skiing UCAS fee - 24 Travel expenses fr up t three Higher Educatinal visits. Clthing allwance Lunch allwance payable t thse with family incme between 19,190-25,000* *Students with a family incme belw 16, 190 are eligible t apply fr Free Schl Meals n NCC website Students can apply fr this grant if: They are eligible fr free schl meals. Yu are eligible if yur parents are claiming ne f these benefits: Incme Supprt a b Child tax credit, (prvided they are nt entitled t wrking tax credit and have an annual taxable incme as assessed by the Inland Revenue) which frm 6 April 2017 des nt exceed 16,190. Incme based jb seekers allwance c Emplyment Supprt Allwance (Incme related). d Guaranteed Element f State Pensin Credit. e Supprt under Part IV f the Immigratin and Asylum Act They cme frm families in the lwer 40% f UK husehld incmes: a Students with an annual family incme f less that 25,000 in the last tax year (including benefits). This must be established thrugh current Wrking Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit Dcumentatin/P60.

4 b Students wh can demnstrate thrugh Wrking Tax Credit/Family Tax Credit that their award has been changed t reflect a change in circumstances s that their annual family incme including benefits is nw belw 25,000. Hw t Apply The applicatin is fr the academic year. Students shuld apply each year. Students shuld cmplete the Bursary Fund Applicatin Frm and frward t Mr Crft by 1 Nvember 2017 Students will need t prvide apprpriate evidence t supprt their applicatin: Fr the Vulnerable Bursary this might include: - A letter referring t the benefit t which the yung persn is entitled; - Written cnfirmatin frm the LA f the yung persn s current r previus lked after status. Fr the Discretinary Bursary this shuld include evidence f benefits/allwances/grants r husehld incme. Once students have had the Discretinary Bursary apprved they can apply directly t the Head f Sixth Frm t make specific requests fr financial supprt. Applicatin Frms are available frm Mr Crft s ffice. Payment f the Vulnerable Bursary Payment will be made by BACS draft int a student s bank accunt. Payments will depend n full attendance, gd behaviur and cmpletin f wrk. Payment f the Discretinary Bursary Payments will be made n prductin f relevant receipts/invices/fficial estimates. Award and payment will als depend n maintaining a minimum f 95% attendance, gd behaviur and cmpletin f wrk.

5 Organisatin and Appeals The Sixth Frm Team will be respnsible fr deciding wh receives the awards based n the criteria utlined abve. The Bursary Fund is given t the schl every year by the ESFA (Educatin Skills Funding Agency). Once these mnies have been allcated during the year the schl will nt be able t make any further discretinary grants until the new academic year. Appeals relating t the grant r bursary shuld be made in the first instance t the Head f the Sixth Frm. Further and final appeals shuld be made t the Headteacher. There is n further right f appeal.
