4 .- -* "The movng fnger has wrt and moved on," sad A. B. (Happy) Chandler, commentng on George Wallace's sudden decson not to have the Kentuckan as hs vce presdental runnng mate. - Reports from Wallace-land have t that many of Wallace's supporters had never wanted Chandler. They recalled that whle he was governor of Kentucky he had stood for the law had called out troops to protect Negro chldren gong to school. He also had sad that the school decson was law and that law must be obeyed. Ths stand by the one-tme Happy Chandler took place years before George Wallace hmself "stood n the school house door," seekng to prevent law from beng obeyed. Happy, who stands for law, was not acceptable to the "law and order man." There s certan ronc humor n ths stuaton. Happy must not have known the meanng of the code. At any rate, Happy Chandler put a very great truth nto a typcal Happy-gram..."The movng fnger has wrt and moved on." (The poetc quote s: "The movng fnger wrtes, and havng wrt, moves on not all your pety nor wt shall lure t back to cancel half a lne, nor all your tears wash out a word of t.") Happy Chandler put t more brefly... The human rghts we have so panfully establshed wll not be washed out. There wll be trauma and troubles n the years ahead precsely because there are those who wll persstently seek to cancel half a lne here or there, or by ther crocodle tears, wash out some words of t. Happy Chandler, who set no outstandng records as a senator and who was a dsappontment as natonal baseball commssoner, has become an embttered poltcal fgure.
