2 Games of the Week Players of the Week: Week 3 Penn State at Iowa Sat., Sept. 23, 4:30 pm PT, ABC Penn State and Iowa were the last two Big Ten representatives in the Rose Bowl Game. They re also both 3-0 this season. Penn State is one of the most talented teams in the country, while Iowa remains one of the most physical. This may not look like much of a game on paper, but when the sun goes down and the lights turn on at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes turn into a different team. It s strength versus strength in this one as Penn State s high-powered offense will go against the stingy Iowa defense. Whoever scores last could come out on top in this Big Ten battle. Washington at Colorado Sat., Sept. 23, 7 pm PT, FS1 It s a rematch of the 2016 Pac-12 Championship Game and the Buffs have had this one circled on their calendar for quite some time. Washington blew the doors off Colorado on December 2 in Santa Clara, dashing the Buffs hope for a Rose Bowl Game bid. The Huskies once again boast a strong offense, but lost a lot off a strong defensive unit from last season. Colorado will look to capitalize on those losses with senior running back Phillip Lindsay and sophomore quarterback Steven Montez leading a solid rushing attack. The Buffs need to be careful when kicking the ball as UW s Dante Pettis tied the NCAA record for career punt returns touchdowns last week. TCU at Oklahoma State Sat., Sept. 23, 12:30 pm PT, ESPN The Big 12 is quickly becoming the hottest conference in college football. High expectations for both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have been met, while TCU has quietly climbed up to No. 16 in polls. This matchup pits two of the nation s best quarterbacks against one another as OSU s Mason Rudolph and TCU s Kenny Hill meet in Stillwater. Rudolph holds the edge as a pure passer, but Hill s mobility makes him a threat through the air and on the ground. This should be an old fashioned Big 12 shootout as the Cowboys are averaging more than 50 points a game, while TCU has put up 50-plus twice in three games. The winner of this one has a long way to go, but will get a serious boost as we head toward the first College Football Playoff rankings in October. Deontay Burnett, WR USC The 103rd Rose Bowl Game star is still shining bright into the 2017 season. Burnett has tallied 100 or more yards in all three game to start the season, including his eight catch, 123 yard performance against Texas on Saturday. The Compton, Calif., native added a pair of touchdowns against the Longhorns, with the second score coming on the first play in overtime. The Trojans defeated the Longhorns, 27-24, in double OT. Alex Hornibrook, QB Wisconsin Just a week after hearing complaints about his arm strength, Hornibrook had a record-setting day against BYU. The lefty set the school-record for completion percentage, as he connected on 17-of-18 passes (94.7%). Hornibrook also set career highs with 256 passing yards and four touchdown passes. The sophomore posted a careerbest pass efficiency rating, the second-highest mark in Wisconsin history.

The Big Ten is back to four teams in the top-10, with Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan clustered at spots 8-10 and Penn State sliding back into a coveted top-four position. The Pac-12 lost two teams in the AP and one in the coaches, but replaced them with Oregon in both polls and the addition of Utah in the AP Poll. San Diego State made a statement last week with a win over Stanford and now find themselves in the top-25, while Mississippi State made a meteoric rise in the polls, going from unranked to No. 17 and No. 19. The Associated Press Poll is made up of a panel of 61 sports writers and broadcasters from around the country. The USA Today Poll is also known as the Coaches Poll and is selected by the Amway Board of Coaches, made up of 64 head coaches at Bowl Subdivision schools. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association. The College Football Playoff rankings are selected by a 12-person committee of current athletic directors, former college football coaches, a former Secretary of State, and a current media member. The committee will issue its first rankings Tuesday, October 31, with subsequent rankings taking place the next five weeks. Louisville s Lamar Jackson, who won the Heisman last year, along with 2017 Rose Bowl Game stars Sam Darnold, of USC, and Saquon Barkley, of Penn State, round out the early top-five. Arkansas to wear Cowboys inspired uniforms in game at Jerry World Arkansas will wear Dallas Cowboys replica uniforms for the Southwest Classic against Texas A&M on Saturday, the school announced Sunday. The Southwest Classic is annually played inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the Cowboys home stadium. The alternative uniforms are being worn to honor Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last month. Jones was a co-captain on the Razorbacks 1964 national title team and has long been the school s most recognizable booster. Pac-12 Week 4 Schedule Utah at Arizona USC at Cal Nevada at Washington State Washington at Colorado Oregon at Arizona State UCLA at Stanford Pac-12 Standings North Overall Conf Washington Washington St California Oregon Stanford Oregon State South Overall Conf USC Colorado Utah UCLA Arizona Arizona State The Razorbacks will wear silver helmets and pants like Jones Cowboys along with a red jersey. The uniform will have similar markings as the Cowboys uniform, such as a Razorback logo on the jersey shoulder where Dallas wears a star and wide stripes on the pants. Essentially, Razorback red replaces Cowboys blue everywhere on the uniform, which was unveiled Sunday on the UA website with players wearing the No. 20 jersey. That s the number All-American running back Darren McFadden, a former Razorback, now wears for the Cowboys. Oklahoma President to retire University of Oklahoma president David Boren announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the school year. Boren, 76, has served as Oklahoma s president for 23 years. Before that he was a U.S. senator, and in the 1970s he became the youngest governor in Oklahoma history at age 33. Boren will retire as the second-longest-tenured president in university history, trailing only George Lynn Cross. As Oklahoma s president, Boren was at the heart of the Big 12 s expansion push, which quickly fizzled after the league announced it would explore expansion in July 2016.
