Curse Objective The aim f the curse is t teach the basic cncepts f flws in pipes and pen channels; t apply cntinuity, mmentum and energy principles fr the slutin f varius pipeline and pen channel prblems. Curse Learning Outcmes On successful cmpletin f this curse students will be able t use the basic fluid mechanics principles t slve pipe and channel flw prblems, apply the knwledge f mathematics and fluid mechanics t design and cnduct experiments t analyze and interpret data and analyze and design pipeline systems and pen channel systems. Specifically, students will be able t, 1. Identify and understand varius characteristics f the flw in pipes [B1]. 2. Discuss the main prperties f laminar and turbulent pipe flw and appreciate their differences [B2]. 3. Analyze lsses in straight prtins f pipes as well as thse in varius pipe system cmpnents [B4]. 4. Curse Assignments A. Lab reprts (10%): Students are expected t cmplete at least six mandatry labratry sessins thrughut the semester. Reprts prepared after these sessins will cntribute twards 10% f ttal grade. B. Quizzes (10%): There will be five r six quizzes each having equal weight. Students will nt be warned abut the dates f the quizzes. C. Midterm Exams (45%): There will be tw midterm exams. D. Final Exam (35%): There will be a cumulative final.

There will be tw midterm exams. Midterm weeks are given in the tentative schedule and they are subject t change. 2. Date fr the final exam will be annunced at the end f the semester. The final exam will cver all tpics. 3. Cell phnes shuld be turned ff and kept ut f sight during the classes. Yu are nt als allwed t use yur cmputers/ tablets etc. at the classrm. 4. If yu are late fr mre than 10 minutes, please d nt enter the class. 5. Yu are nt allwed t use cell phnes during the exams.

6 Attendance In rder t be admitted t the final examinatin, a student must have attended at least 70% f the lectures and all six labratry sessins. Furthermre, students must have btained an average f at least 30 % frm the tw midterm examinatins given. Students nt fulfilling these cnditins will nt be permitted t enter the final examinatin. Students nt given the permissin t take the final examinatin will autmatically receive the grade FX at the end f the semester. Late Assignment Submissin Fr each day after the annunced deadline, 20% f the ttal earned mark will be deducted. Mre than tw days f late submissins will nt be accepted. Make Up Exams Make-ups fr midterm exams will NOT be ffered generally. If yu have a legitimate reasn fr missing an exam, then yu must arrange t make up the exam BEFORE the scheduled time f the exam. The nly exceptins are illness r emergency (e.g., death in family, a traffic accident, etc.). In case f an illness r emergency yu need t supply a dcumentatin that supprts yur claim.
