7 Degree Requirement Cmpnents List each credit-bearing curse requirement fr the degree the student is pursuing by specific curse number and title (e.g., ENGL 101, English Cmpsitin). In cases where multiple curse ptins are available, be as specific as pssible majr-related electives (e.g., Management Electives ), general educatin requirements (e.g., Humanities Electives ), r nn-specific requirements (e.g., Free Electives ). Keep in mind that prviding specificity and clarity n the Student Agreement enables students t stay n track tward degree cmpletin and prvides Service educatin representatives with the infrmatin they need t assist the student. Cmpute this number by subtracting the credit awarded frm the required hurs fr degree. SOC DNS Curse Categry Cde SOC DNS member institutins enter the SOC DNS Curse Categry Cde in this clumn where specific curses are listed in the degree plan and thse curses are listed in the SOC DNS Curse Transferability Tables. Institutin staff may lk up the curse number under the hme institutin s name in the Cllege Curse Index prtin f Chapter 5 f this Handbk. If the curse is listed and des nt have a Befre date, find its listing in the Transferability Tables under that categry cde and check t see that its title is crrect. (If the titles d nt match, ntify SOC s that an update can be made t the curse listing r re-circulate the curse as apprpriate.) Always cnsult the Handbk r Web pages fr the degree s type (assciate r bachelr s) as there are separate categries fr each. 8 Evaluatin and Award f Credit Evaluate the student s previus institutin cursewrk, military training and ccupatinal experience, cllege-level examinatins, certificatin examinatins, and ther nn-traditinal credit surces fr applicability tward the degree requirements. Fr each requirement, evaluate and enter any earned credit that satisfies all r part f the requirement in the apprpriate clumn. Nte: Only enter credit surces n the SOC DNS Student Agreement that satisfy a degree requirement. Institutin Cursewrk Military Credit Resident clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr successful cmpletin f cursewrk with the hme institutin applied tward degree requirements (students must cmplete academic residency with their hme institutin prir t award f degree). Transfer clumn Enter credit hurs accepted frm ther institutins and applied tward degree requirements. Credits accepted frm Cmmunity Cllege f the Air Frce transcripts shuld be placed here. Indicate the surce f the credit in the Ntes clumn (e.g., CTC SOC222, UMUC ECON201). Service Schls clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr Service schl s military training curses applied tward degree requirements. The Jint Services Transcript (JST) dcuments military training using ACE IDs. The training prefixes fr each service are: AR [Army], AF [Air Frce], CG [Cast Guard], DD [Department f Defense], MC [Marine Crps], and NV [Navy]. MOS/Rating clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr military ccupatinal experience applied tward degree requirements. The JST dcuments military ccupatinal experience (e.g., MOS in the Army and Marine Crps, and Rating in the Navy and Cast Guard), using ACE IDs. Sme f the ccupatinal specialty prefixes fr each service are: MOS [Army MOS], CGW [Cast Guard Warrant], MCE [Marine Crps Enlisted], and NER [Navy Enlisted Rating]. Nte: The best surce f dcumentatin f the individual s military training and experience is the JST. Als cnsult the SOC Degree Netwrk System Credit Evaluatin Supplement fr guidance n relating and matching ACE credit terms with SOC DNS Curse Categry Cdes and elective areas. Recmmendatins frm the SOC Credit Evaluatin Supplement appear n the Summary pages f the JST. Fr career servicemembers wh cmpleted training spnsred by ther Services r DD and/r military training/experience befre the establishment f the JST (r the previus AARTS, SMART, r CGI Transcript), the servicemember shuld prvide alternative dcumentatin, such as a cpy f his r her DD-295 Applicatin fr the Evaluatin f Learning Experiences During Military Service r DD-214 Certificate f Release r Discharge frm Active Duty. 9 Examinatin Prgram Credit CLEP clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr Cllege-Level Examinatin Prgram (CLEP) General and Subject examinatins. DSST clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr DSST examinatins (frmerly knwn as DANTES Subject Standardized Tests). ECE clumn Enter credit hurs awarded fr Excelsir Cllege Examinatins (ECE) / UExcel. Nte: Use Sectin 2 f the SOC Degree Netwrk Credit Evaluatin Supplement fr guidelines abut awarding cllege credit frm these testing prgrams. Credit amunts and levels fr examinatins are primarily derived frm the ACE Military Guide.
