1 Volunteer Opportunities One Time Events One Time Events: These events are scheduled for a specific date and time. Students must bring the volunteer hours form with them and request that the event supervisor fill out the hours and evaluation and sign the form. NOTE: You may print a form by going to the Career site and selecting the left tab marked Volunteer Forms. Help River Ridge Teachers, Mr. Schlegel, Mr. Kuniyasu, Mr. Jahnsen, and Mr. Theine during this fun family event. Stuff The Bus Food & Toiletries Drive. Student volunteers will receive donations and keep the bus interior organized. Food will benefit the Thurston Country Food Bank and the Other Bank (cleaning products, toiletries, and personal supplies for women). No pre-registration required Just go to the Walmart parking lot and look for the yellow school bus. Sponsoring Organization Garden Raised Bounty GRuB Event This organization partners with lower-income people to create gardens for growing their own food as well as numerous outreach and education/training campaigns. Volunteers can paint, make phone calls, letter signs, take photos, weed gardens, repair tools, post flyers, and perform many other tasks. Date & Time Special Criteria or Restrictions Orientation required; sign up online (see contact information). 3 Hands On Children s Museum Lacey Timberland Library North Thurston Public Schools Volunteers may sign up for special events such as Sand In the City, regularly scheduled days, or internships. Duties could include face painting, greeting visitors, helping with art activities, food service, marketing/promoting, and more. Volunteers stamp books, put on new covers, shelve items, assist patrons, and more. You may volunteer in elementary or middle schools in our school district. Some schools have after school programs and/or evening events sponsored by the school or PTA. Minimum age is 13. The Stream Team. Rebuilding Together brings volunteers and communities together to improve (for safety) the homes and lives of low-income homeowners. Volunteers can work as translators, photographers, interns, support staff, and as repair persons (no experience required!) The South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity s store needs teenage volunteers to keep it running smoothly. Students 18 and older may volunteer to help build homes (absolutely NO experience needed). If you are interested in preserving our natural water resources by restoring, protecting, and through education, you should contact the Stream Team hours directly with the organization Minimum age 14. 6 Zoo Youth at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium Other activities they are involved in are: parking lot attendants, sand bagging during floods, and other community activities. Zoo Guides talk with zoo visitors and campers about animals in the exhibit areas, work with summer camp staff, participate in citizen science & conservation projects, and more. Note that Zoo Guides do NOT assist with animal care, but can learn what training & education is needed to do so.
