2 43rd ANNUAL Advances and Controversies in Clinical Pediatrics JUNE 3-5, 2010 The UCSF Children s Hospital at the University of California, San Francisco invites you to attend the 43rd Annual Advances & Controversies in Clinical Pediatrics, June 3-5, 2010, at The Westin San Francisco Market Street Hotel, 50 Third Street, San Francisco, California. The program endeavors to provide research, academic, and clinical information in a format that emphasizes the practical application of current concepts relevant to office practice and to professionals involved in the care of children. Pediatric, Family Practice, and Emergency Room Physicians, as well as Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Nurse Practitioners will benefit from their participation in this program. Nationally recognized guest faculty present a series of lectures that are complemented by UCSF faculty and Bay Area experts speaking about a variety of other current and controversial pediatric issues, which will ultimately result in better care for children of all ages, infants through adolescents. This year s course focuses on cardiology, infectious diseases, and hematologyoncology, including epidemiology and cancer prevention. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this conference, participants should be able to: Appropriately discuss the epidemiology and risk factors for childhood cancer, quality of life in cancer survivors, development of Rotavirus vaccine, impact of acculturation, global health concerns, and anti-vaccine movement; Apply aggressive treatment for hypercholesterolemia, hypertension. and complications of cancer therapy; Improve evaluation and prevention of sudden death, head trauma, concussion, and orthopaedic injuries in female athletes; Appropriately administer vaccines; Develop strategies for diagnosis and treatment of Kawasaki Disease, H1N1 Swine Flu, hemangiomas, rashes, and sexually transmitted infections; Recognize, evaluate, and manage immunodeficiency, bleeding, and fever in infants; Understand and utilize new technologies in cancer therapy, neurosurgery, electrophysiology, and interventional cardiology.
