Mann, MD Activity Coordinator: Ellen Seaback, CMP, CAE S T A T E M E N T O F N E E D S Primary care providers, family physicians, and internists as well as nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists see patients with a variety of cardiac and vascular ailments in their practices every day. However, the curriculum and amount of exposure during residency and other training programs do not always provide an adequate or practical approach to diagnosing, treating, and managing common cardiac and vascular disorders. In addition, new advances in diagnosis, treatment, and management are being made at a rapid pace. In order to be ready to offer the best and most current diagnostic, treatment, and management options, physicians, nurses, physician assistants and pharmacists must have a forum to easily access that information. O B J E C T I V E S At the conclusion of the activity, the participant should be able to: n Discuss and apply appropriate diagnostic strategies for patients with cardiac disease. n Identify and describe appropriate treatment strategies for patients with cardiac disease. n Discuss and apply appropriate diagnostic strategies for patients with vascular disease. n Identify and describe appropriate treatment strategies for patients with vascular disease. n Identify which high-risk features would warrant a sub-specialty referral to a cardiologist.
