1 Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care University of California San Francisco, School of Medicine University of California San Francisco INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE: SATURDAY November 8, 2014 Marriott Union Square COURSE CO-CHAIRS Joyce S. Lee, MD, MAS Assistant Professor of Medicine Director, UCSF Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic Jeffrey A. Golden, MD Professor of Medicine Director of Clinical Trials, UCSF Interstitial Lung Disease Program Harold R. Collard, MD Associate Professor of Medicine Director, UCSF Interstitial Lung Disease Program
2 INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE: OVERVIEW Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a disease category that encompasses dozens of pathobiologically distinct conditions, and it poses substantial challenges to the practicing pulmonologist. There is considerable confusion in the medical community regarding the diagnosis and management of ILD resulting in significant delays in diagnosis and treatment. There is also frustration with the lack of effective therapies for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the most common ILD. However, the landscape of IPF treatment may be changing with the findings of recent phase 3 clinical trials in IPF. TARGET AUDIENCE This conference is designed to provide clinicians and other health care providers with a practical approach to the diagnosis and management of ILD, an understanding of the importance of accurate and timely diagnosis, and a treatment approach that is broad and evidence-based. OBJECTIVES This course is designed to improve the ability of providers to: Utilize case presentations to improve incorporation of high-resolution computed tomography scans and surgical lung biopsy in the diagnosis of ILD; Incorporate the latest evidence to guide evaluation and management of common co-morbidities in IPF; Evaluate the role of diagnostic tests, steroids, mechanical ventilation, and urgent lung transplantation in the hospitalized ILD patient; Assess factors that have implications for lung transplant timing and candidacy in ILD; Compare the evidence for novel pharmacologic therapies in the treatment of IPF, including pirfenidone, Nintedanib, and N-acetylcysteine. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
