2 About the course In the quickly growing field of sports medicine, it is essential for physicians to stay up-to-date in the management and treatment of sport-related concussion (SRC) and spine injury. Guidelines, legislation and management methods are evolving as quickly as the athletes themselves Can you keep pace? SRC and spine injuries require specialized and timely treatment both on the field and in the medical setting. This course will present the most current research, tools and guidelines to effectively and safely diagnose and treat athletes in the acute and chronic stages of recovery. The course will also cover the basics of SRC and spine injury management, including information about making evidence-based decisions, treatment plans and using social and emotional interventions to improve longterm outcomes. In addition to lectures, Q&A panels, and networking opportunities, the course will feature workshops led by national experts on how to return individuals to school, sports, and activities of daily living. Target audience Physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and researchers who specialize or have an interest in: pediatrics internal medicine neurology neurosurgery sports medicine psychology neuropsychology Other audiences that would benefit from this course: alternative medicine practitioners coaches athletes and their families school personnel Registration fees Physicians $325 Trainee/Allied Health Professionals $210 Past Course Attendees $200 Other Professionals* $190 Groups of 3 or more $175 * (includes: PTs, ATs, athletes & families, coaches, school personnel & alternative medicine practitioners) Objectives Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: assess the problems of sport-related concussion and spine injuries and develop strategies to diagnose and treat them effectively determine when to safely return an athlete to play in accordance with best practice and legal requirements evaluate athletic injuries and determine when to refer your patients to an expert for a higher level of care work in a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal care for your athletic patients Accreditation In support of improving patient care, Boston Children s Hospital is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCE) to provide continuing medical education for the healthcare team. Boston Children s Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 7.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and for 7.50 contact hours for nurses. Clinicians should claim only credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity. AAPA accepts AMA category 1 credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCE. Physical therapist and athletic trainer accreditations pending. Registration and refund policies Registration by credit card can be made by visiting bostonchildrens.org/concussion2017. Registration by check (draft on a United States bank) to be made payable to Boston Children s Hospital. To discuss payment, contact the CME department via cmedepartment@childrens.harvard. edu. Telephone or fax registration is not accepted. Registration with cash payment is not permitted. Upon receipt of your paid registration, an confirmation from the Boston Children s Continuing Education office will be sent to you. Be sure to include an address that you check frequently. Your address is used for critical information, including registration confirmation, evaluation and certificate. Fifty percent (50%) refunds will be issued for all cancellations received prior to the start of the course. Refund requests must be received by postal mail, or telephone. No shows are subject to the full course fee, and no refunds will be issued once the conference has started.
