4 OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: Describe Zika virus and review the current literature focusing on Zika virus associated birth defects Recognize recent issues with NAS assessment and treatment options Identify potential research interests. With case based scenarios, recognize principles of stabilization during transport of perinatal encephalopathy, surgical emergencies, shock and the ELBW infant Recognize the effect of altitude during transport of the neonate in respiratory distress Describe strategies to assist referring physicians establish good communication (Telephone/Telemedicine) dispatch centers and neonatal medical control, to ensure a timely and safe transport Identify methods and key concepts of professional medical ethics Identify ethical concepts of the pregnant woman, fetus, and neonate as patient Identify implications of these concepts for the professionally responsible management of ethical challenges in perinatal medicine Understand the current scope of genomics and identify appropriate testing in clinical practice Describe the clinical findings of NEC and review research for new modalities of management Identify common orthopedic disorders in newborn and its management Describe the pathophysiology and management of heart failure in newborn Recognize the indications of heart transplant and program implementation at LBCH Assess the antibiotic usage pattern and the impact of an antibiotic stewardship program Discuss and identify ethical issues in a terminally ill neonate Understand the differences between the neurosurgical devices to treat hydrocephalus Define signs and symptoms of a shunt malfunction Identify the proper way to care for a patient with shunted hydrocephalus CREDIT Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s).
