2 UCSF RADIATION ONCOLOGY UPDATE: PERSPECTIVE ON NEW TECHNOLOGIES, CLINICAL FINDINGS AND SAFETY St. Regis Hotel April 1-3, 2011 OVERVIEW Focusing on two of the most common cancer sites treated in Radiation Oncology, prostate and breast, this course will look at new technologies (robotics, imaging, and new delivery devices), discuss the latest clinical findings, shed light on the current controversies, and review safety with a modern perspective. TARGET AUDIENCE The course is intended for a national audience of Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists actively involved in the clinical activities or the decision making process of using radiation for cancer treatment. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of 15.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the end of this activity, attendees should be able to: Understand and describe the role, promises and pitfalls of robotics and robots in radiation therapy; Identify the changes in anatomy/shape and how to image them; Discern evidence for and against new and emerging technologies for accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI); Determine the best form(s) of monotherapy for low risk prostate cancer; Understand and demonstrate how to put safety first.
