Regional Conference ~ To Be Held Annually ~ UPMC St. Margaret is a tertiary referral hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center located on the north shore of the Allegheny River in the Pittsburgh suburb of Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. UPMC St. Margaret serves as a primary and tertiary health care resource for Pennsylvania residents of Northern Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland and Armstrong Counties. Medical education of future generations of physicians and nurses remains an important focus at UPMC St. Margaret. It is the primary clinical site for the nationally recognized Family Medicine Residency program established in The University of Pittsburgh s Department of Surgery is also closely aligned with the surgical activity of St. Margaret. Over 5000 major operations were performed at St. Margaret in the year The multidisciplinary cancer care at St. Margaret is an integral part of the community hospital activity of the University of Pittsburgh s Hillman Cancer Center. State of the art cancer care is provided by the cancer care team who are themselves members of the Hillman Cancer Center. This year, the American College of Surgeons also recognized St. Margaret s Community Comprehensive Care Program as one of the Nation s Centers of Excellence in cancer care. The Lung and Thoracic Diseases Center of UPMC St. Margaret is a multidisciplinary care group of pulmonary medicine specialists, thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists of the University of Pittsburgh s medical faculty. The Center provides coordinated, comprehensive care to those patients with benign and malignant diseases of the chest. Overview This program will consist of a series of lectures addressing the latest in diagnosing and treating diseases of the chest. In particular newest advances in the diagnosing, treatment and surveillance of lung cancer, the diagnosing and treatment of sleep disorders and pulmonary hypertension will be discussed. Dr. Richard Light from Vanderbilt University will be presenting information on the management of malignant pleural effusions. Who Should Attend This course is designed for family practice, internal medicine, pulmonary medicine physicians as well as general and thoracic surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists and other allied health professionals. Continuing Education Credit The is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Other health care professional are awarded 0.5 continuing education units (CEU s) which are equal to 4.75 contact hours.
