1 Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology for the Primary Care Provider 2017 October 6, 2017 Hyatt Regency Bethesda, MD Course Directors: Lauren F. Damle, MD

2 CME INFORMATION Course Description This one-day pediatric and adolescent gynecology course will focus on common and uncommon gynecology conditions for healthcare professionals involved in the medical and surgical gynecologic care of adolescents and young adults. Pre-pubertal and adolescent girls experience a myriad of gynecologic problems. Most of these issues can be safely managed by primary care providers with specialty in pediatrics, family practice and gynecology. However, pediatricians often do not specialize in gynecologic problems and may face uncertainty when diagnosing a patient, as well as gynecologists may not be experienced in treating adolescents and young adults. The objective is to provide an environment complete with didactic lectures with ample room for panel discussion to cover such topics as abnormal menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, confidential services, complex contraception and gender issues. This course will allow the primary care provider to increase his/her comfort with evaluation and management for these conditions as well as learn when to refer a child to a specialist. Learning Objectives Recognize when a young woman s menstrual cycle is abnormal, initiate appropriate work up and facilitate appropriate treatment and/or referral Work-up and treat adolescent patients with female athlete triad according to the ACOG Guidelines Recognize the principle of ovarian preservation in the adolescent Define the proper indications for long-acting reversible contraception and discuss complex contraception in patients with complex medical issues Discuss the principles of adolescent patient confidentiality in the age of EMR Identify the causes of pelvic pain and utilize evaluation and management strategies Identify the principles of PreP and CDC recommendations for HIV prevention Target Audience This conference is intended for pediatricians, internists, gynecologists, medical students, residents, fellows, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, allied health professionals, midwives, social workers, nutritionists, and dieticians.
