2 COURSE DESCRIPTION The Robert O. Y. Warren, MD Memorial Seminar was established in honor of Dr. Warren, an outstanding Wilmington pediatrician. Dr. Warren practiced from 1932 until his death in Dr. Warren was instrumental in forming both the Child Guidance Center and the Child Diagnostic and Development Center, of which he was president. As the physician for Tower Hill School and a member of the Wilmington Public School Board of Education, he was also very active in the area of children s education. The Delaware Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Delaware Academy of Medicine and the co-sponsor this annual continuing education lecture in order to perpetuate Dr. Warren s memory. He left us with a legacy of devotion to the health and well-being of children which we strive to convey through this lecture. The Robert O. Y. Warren, MD Memorial Seminar is designed to provide primary care providers with information on pediatric medicine that can be used to improve their clinical practice. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Recognize physiologic basis of the normal and pathological relationship of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia to breastfeeding and breastmilk. Define the appropriate clinical methods to optimize breastfeeding while preventing excessive increases in hyperbilirubinemia. Discuss the major benefits of breastfeeding and the health risks of not breastfeeding. Identify the basic principles underlying successful support of breastfeeding. Assess the pathophysiologic role of food allergies in atopic dermatitis. Describe the clinical implications of a positive skin test to a food in a patient with atopic dermatitis. Conduct the 2 minute MSK Exam. Distinguish PE Findings that may predispose to injury. Develop a sound differential diagnosis using patient exam and physical exam to treat pediatric arthralgias and arthritis. Discuss current diagnostic criteria and treatment plans for arthralgia and arthritis. Initiate workup for patients with common hematologic problems. Determine when referral to Hematologist is appropriate for patients with common hematologic problems. Interpret thyroid hormone levels and know which patients to refer. Initiate a basic evaluation of true precocious puberty and know which patients to refer. Identify red flags for sudden death on family history and past medical history. Evaluate ECG findings of At Risk Individuals. Identify basic facial characteristics that indicate underlying jaw and dental relationships/ MAR alignment. Discuss benefits of early orthodontic evaluation of patients. Evaluate and treat pediatric constipation. Diagnose and treat common sleep disorders.

5 COURSE REGISTRATION Fees: The conference registration fee is $75 for physicians, nurses and allied health professionals. The fee for students and residents is $25, if registration is accompanied by a letter from the student s/ resident s program director indicating that the student/resident is enrolled in the program. A senior discount is being offered to clinicians who have retired from active practice or who are over 65 years of age. That fee is $30. The fees include all course materials, refreshments and meals as noted on the schedule. 6 GENERAL INFORMATION Site: The program will be held in the third floor Lecture Hall of the Nemours/Alfred I. dupont Hospital for Children, located at 1600 Rockland Road in Wilmington, DE. Accreditation: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of Nemours, the Delaware Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Delaware Academy of Medicine. Nemours is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Nemours designates this educational activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
