2 Goal This activity has been designed to provide up-to-date education to health care providers in order to improve health outcomes in the fields of immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases. New recommendations and guidelines will be addressed through didactic lectures and a panel discussion. Attendees are asked to use the registration form to submit a question for the panel discussion based on the topics being addressed or another area of importance. Target Audience Family practice physicians, pediatricians, internists, pharmacists, nurses, allied health professionals, school nurses, nursing students, medical residents and medical students will benefit from attendance at this activity. Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to: Discuss immunization requirements and guidelines for the refugee population Identify Erie County resources for refugee population Identify two misconceptions that parents have concerning vaccinations for preventable diseases Discuss new or improved communication skills to address parental concerns Describe key elements of quality improvement initiatives and strategies to increase adolescent immunization rates Describe at least one way to get ABP MOC credit for performing office-based quality-improvement projects to increase HPV vaccination coverage Summarize the latest updates from the CDC on vaccines and vaccinepreventable diseases Define the 4 Pillars approach to improving immunization rates Describe each pillar and practical ways to implement them in primary care Discuss current vaccination rates in both the U.S. and Pennsylvania in terms of population coverage Recognize the impact of access to primary care providers as it pertains to immunization rates Outline the pharmacist s role in meeting the needs of unimmunized adults in Pennsylvania AMA Accreditation Saint Vincent Hospital is accredited by the Pennsylvania Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Designation Saint Vincent Hospital designates this live educational activity for a maximum of 6.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nursing Accreditation UPMC is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Nursing Contact Hours A maximum of 6.0 nursing contact hours will be awarded. Participants will be able to claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program. Accreditation refers to recognition of continuing nursing education activities only and does not imply UPMC or Commission on Accreditation approval or endorsement of any commercial product. ACPE Credit The University of Pittsburgh Center for Continuing Education in the Health Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This activity is eligible for ACPE credit; see final CPE activity announcement for specific details. AAFP Credit Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending.
