3 GENERAL INFORMATION Purpose This conference is designed for clinical cardiologists and nurse practitioners and will focus on implementation and practice of important new diagnostic and therapeutic developments in cardiovascular medicine. Speakers will be drawn from community and academic practice. A roundtable discussion format will allow attendees to consider obstacles and opportunities for improving cardiovascular patient care and reducing cardiac risk in their own hospitals and clinics. Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: 1) Review some of the options for career paths with an MD and specialty certification, beyond patient care 2) Define the evolution of medicine relevant to personal career choices and societal contribution 3) Update the evidence-based approach to development of 2013 guidelines 4) Identify patient groups most likely to experience net of ASCVD risk reduction benefit from statin therapy 5) Recognize evidence-based approach to the use of non-statin therapy 6) Review history of direct current (DC) and thermal ablation techniques in treating human arrhythmias 7) Demonstrate how catheters in the pericardial space can deliver DC energy to create ablation lines for pulmonary vein isolation without thermal injury 8) Discuss the proposed steps for a new experimental catheter-based intra-pericardial ablation procedure and how magnetic catheter can overcome some of the technical obstacles 9) Characterize advanced heart failure and who needs a referral for advanced cardiac therapies 10) Define what are advanced cardiac therapies 11) Relate appropriate timing of a referral for advanced cardiac therapies 12) Recognize mitral valve anatomy from both 2D and 3D echo perspectives including anterior and posterior leaflet scallop identification 13) Describe the Carpentier classification for mitral valve regurgitation 14) Demonstrate the fundamentals of 3D image acquisition for the mitral valve 15) Identify how 3D echo assists in the diagnosis of different forms of mitral valve disease FACULTY Guest Faculty David J. Refund All but $25 of the registration fee is refundable if inability to attend is made known on or before June 13, Parking At the hospital complex, parking is available in Ramp 3 across from the Kinnick Stadium on Hawkins Drive or in Ramp 1 just north of the main entrance. Free parking vouchers for both these ramps will be available upon check-in at the conference site. Directions to Medical Alumni Auditorium Enter through the main entrance of the hospital. Take elevator C to the 3rd floor. Take a right off the elevator and a sharp left. You will see the Med Alumni Auditorium at the end of the hall designated by a blue wall.
