2 OVERVIEW The sixth annual conference is a result of collaboration between the 4 Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Centers (CRPC's) in Tennessee, the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (TNAAP) and Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children (TN-EMSC). The emphasis of the course is to provide practical clinical information on urgent and emergent pediatric issues in an atmosphere that encourages participant interaction. TARGET AUDIENCE The program is designed for pediatricians, emergency physicians, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses & EMS professionals. CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES 1. Review early recognition and current management of common pediatric emergencies such as shock, status epilepticus, the difficult airway, sports injuries, resuscitation of the newborn, the febrile infant, burns, cardiac emergencies and acute pain. 2. Assess and troubleshoot the "technology dependant" child. 3. Identify strategies to improve patient satisfaction, enhance patient safety and effectively communicate adverse outcomes in the acute care setting. 4. Discuss controversies in the treatment of acute otitis media, pharyngitis & sinusitis. 5. Describe prehospital initiatives for children in our state including disaster preparedness.
