8 DESCRIPTION This three-day conference (half-day sessions only) is designed to update, educate, and discuss common problems in newborn medicine in the clinical setting, with orientation toward the neonatologist, general practicing pediatrician, nurse, and respiratory therapist. Each year, the Program Committee carefully reviews all the attendee evaluations from the previous year in order to prepare a pertinent program presented by distinguished faculty. OBJECTIVES The participant, upon completion of this conference, will be able to: 1. Discuss the differences between Isolated Intestinal Perforations and NEC in the Premature and Mature Neonate. 2. Understand options for the surgical management of NEC. 3. Understand the pathophysiology of acute perinatal encephalopathy. 4. To define the role of cerebral function monitoring in neonatal intensive care situations. 5. Identify common management strategies for treatment of the patent ductus arteriosus. 6. Understand the mechanisms that regulate ductus arteriosus patency and closure in the preterm infant. 7. Understand the role in perinatal inflammation in preterm labor. 8. Review pharmacokinetics of dopamine and dobutamine in neonates. 9. Participants will learn the results of neonatal clinical trials using a multihospital consortium. ACCREDITATION This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Orlando Regional Healthcare and Shands Children s Hospital. Orlando Regional Healthcare is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Orlando Regional Healthcare designates this education activity for a maximum of 15.0 credits in Category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician s Recognition Award.
