Sngraphers wrk directly with patients and prvide care as needed during ultrasund exams. In additin t knwing detailed anatmy, sngraphers need t knw the pathlgic cnditins cmmnly encuntered with ultrasund and will develp technical skills necessary t prduce high quality sngraphic images. The field f diagnstic imaging fr Sngraphers is varied with pprtunities t specialize in many clinical areas. Yu will find sngraphy in all aspects f health care imaging. Implied in this caregiving rle are essential jb functins that require the sngrapher t demnstrate cgnitive, psychmtr, and affective skills. Handle stressful situatins related t technical and prcedural standards and patient care situatins. 4. Adapt t changing envirnments and be able t priritize tasks. 5. GateWay Cmmunity Cllege ffers a Certificate f Cmpletin r an Assciate f Applied Science Degree in Diagnstic Medical Sngraphy. The ttal cst fr the prgram is between $9,569 $13,572 * fr Maricpa Cunty residents including tuitin, fees, required textbks, lab supplies and clinical unifrms, drug screening, clinical liability insurance, fingerprinting, and backgrund checks, etc. This prgram is accredited by the Cmmissin n Accreditatin f Allied Health Educatin Prgrams (CAAHEP) in general sngraphy and vascular technlgy. 6 students are eligible t sit fr the American Registry f Diagnstic Medical Sngraphers (ARDMS) examinatins fr Abdmen, OB/GYN sngraphy t earn the Registered Diagnstic Medical Sngrapher (RDMS) credential. Students cmpleting the prgram are eligible t sit the ARDMS exam in vascular technlgy and earn the Registered Vascular Technlgist (RVT) credential. Students cmpleting the prgram may als sit the American Registry f Radilgic Technlgists (ARRT) examinatin fr general sngraphy and earn the Radigraphy Technlgist Sngraphy RT(S) credential r the Radigraphy Technlgist Vascular Sngraphy RT(VS).** Students attend class r clinical practicum apprximately 40 hurs per week. 7 PROGRAM GOALS Prgram Gals and Outcmes The gal f this prgram is t meet the needs f the cmmunities we serve. This includes the students, graduates, faculty, GateWay Cmmunity Cllege, the emplyers in Maricpa Cunty and the State f Arizna, physicians and the general public. The prgram will prvide educatin and training in sngraphy f the abdmen, bstetrics, and vascular system. This educatin and training will prepare the students t meet the fllwing minimum expectatins: T prepare cmpetent entry-level general sngraphers in the cgnitive (knwledge), psychmtr (skills), and affective (behavir) learning dmains and T prepare cmpetent entry-level vascular technlgists in the cgnitive (knwledge), psychmtr (skills), and affective (behavir) learning dmains. Apprpriateness f Gals and Learning Dmains This prgram will regularly assess its gals and learning dmains. Prgram persnnel will identify and respnd t changes in the needs and/r expectatins f its cmmunities f interest. An advisry cmmittee, which is representative f at least each f the cmmunities f interest named in gals f the prgram, is designated and charged with the respnsibility f meeting at least annually, t assist the prgram and spnsr persnnel in frmulating and peridically revising apprpriate gals and learning dmains, mnitring needs and expectatins, and ensuring prgram respnsiveness t changes. 8 CLINICAL EDUCATION GateWay Cmmunity Cllege enjys the nging supprt and cmmitment t prviding the highest standard f clinical educatinal experiences frm the medical facilities in Arizna. When student sngraphers begin their clinical practicum they will experience many different exam types, ultrasund equipment, and be expsed t nrmal as well as pathlgic findings. Students can expect t be at clinical practicum during the weekdays, weekend clinical hurs are nt available. Clinicals are during the daytime and late evening. Night clinical hurs are nt available. Clinical hurs are scheduled fr 8 hurs each day. Students attend clinicals tw days a week during the first Fall semester, three days a week during the first Spring semester, five days a week during the summer semester, three days a week during the secnd Fall semester and tw days a week during the secnd Spring semester befre graduatin. Students can expect t lg 1680 hurs f clinical time during the prgram. DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS - DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY PLACEMENT TESTING Placement testing is designed t identify yur skill levels in English language usage, reading, and mathematics. Placement tests are scheduled at a variety f times in GateWay s Testing Center and are free f charge. Please cntact GateWay s Testing Center r visit the web site t get updated requirements and hurs f peratin. ADVANCED PLACEMENT There is n ptin fr advanced placement in the DMS prgram. Students wh have attended CAAHEP accredited prgrams elsewhere may be able t transfer cursewrk that has identical curriculum. Applicatins fr the 2019 class can be submitted via beginning May 22nd, 2018 after 12am midnight MST at the fllwing selectiveadmissins@gatewaycc.edu. Yu can als submit yur applicatin in-persn at the Enrllment Services frnt cunter (IE building) starting at 8am MST n May 22nd, Applicatins are nly accepted after cmpletin f all prerequisite classes (3.0 GPA r higher is required). Once a student has been accepted int a prgram fr the start f an upcming semester, clinical requirements will be sent ut. MCCCD BACKGROUND CHECK POLICY REQUIREMENTS Students seeking admissin t an MCCCD Allied Health r Nursing Prgram (Prgram) will be required t btain a valid Level-One Arizna Department f Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card (FCC Card) AND a passing scre n an MCCCD backgrund check. This plicy precludes MCCCD faculty r staff frm assigning students t a clinical experience wh cannt meet the new requirements. Upn admissin t the prgram, students are required t present a cpy f the DPS card and apply fr the MCCCD Backgrund Check. Students bear the financial csts fr bth the MCCCD Backgrund Check and the AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card. Students will receive Infrmatin regarding the MCCCD Backgrund Check after admissin, but prir t the beginning f the prgram. We encurage students t apply fr the card early in the applicatin prcess. The Diagnstic Ultrasund Prfessin is a multi-specialty field cmprised f Diagnstic Medical Sngraphy (with subspecialties in abdminal, neurlgic, bstetrical/gyneclgic and phthalmic ultrasund), Diagnstic Cardiac Sngraphy (with subspecialties in adult and pediatric echcardigraphy), Vascular Technlgy, and ther emerging fields. These diverse specialties are distinguished by their use f diagnstic medical ultrasund as a primary technlgy in their daily wrk. The Diagnstic Medical Sngraphy prgram at GateWay Cmmunity Cllege is accredited in abdmen and bstetrics/gyneclgy sngraphy. Additinally, students are given intrductry training in vascular, pediatric sngraphy, and musculskeletal applicatins f ultrasund. WHAT IS THE CURRICULUM AND LENGTH OF THE SONOGRAPHY PROGRAM? The GateWay Cmmunity Cllege prgram is a 21 mnth full-time day prgram n sngraphy. Curses include physics, abdmen, bstetrics, gyneclgy, vascular imaging, clinical practice and all ther aspects f sngraphy. Students must earn grades f C r better in all didactic classes and pass their clinical curses t remain in the prgram. It is nt pssible t ffer advanced placement in the prgram due t the need t develp and assess scanning skills required t perfrm exams. WHEN DOES THE NEXT CLASS BEGIN? Chrts begin each Fall semester. WHAT TIMES ARE THE CLASSES FOR THE PROGRAM SCHEDULED? The classes, labs, and clinical rtatins are scheduled during the day Mnday thrugh Friday, typically frm 8 a.m. t 5 p.m. The schedule is based n the needs f the clinical sites and the schl and is subject t change. Students can expect t be at clinical practicum during the weekdays, weekend clinical hurs are nt available. Clinicals are during the daytime and late evening. Night clinical hurs are nt available. Clinical hurs are scheduled fr 8 hurs each day. Students attend clinicals tw days a week during the first Fall semester, three days a week during the first Spring semester, five days a week during the summer semester, three days a week during the secnd Fall semester and tw days a week during the secnd Spring semester befre graduatin. 26 CLINICAL PARTNERSHIP STATEMENT/AGREEMENT In rder t accmmdate ur clinical partners and t frm new partnerships with which t place students int clinical practicum experiences, the Diagnstic Medical Sngraphy prgram at GateWay Cmmunity Cllege have develped a means fr ur clinical partners t place students wh may be their emplyees int the prgram by prviding clinical slts fr the student. The clinical site must meet accreditatin requirements fr the prgram which include: Perfrm general sngraphy (abdmen/ small parts) Direct student supervisin by RDMS credentialed sngraphers Perfrm a minimum number f exams mnthly A site may select a student t enter the prgram by prviding clinical slts fr tw students.
