5 Advance Credit ptins at Saskatchewan Plytechnic There are three ways t get advance credit fr what yu already knw. Yu can cmbine them fr credit in the same prgram, but nt fr the same curse. 1. Transfer credit fr curses taken frm anther cllege r university. See ur nline webpage fr mre infrmatin abut transfer credit. Transfer credit is an ptin if One r tw curses yu tk clsely match ne r tw f ur curses. The schl yu attended is a recgnized r authrized pst-secndary institutin. Yu list the schl and prgram n yur Applicatin fr Admissin frm. Yu prvide an acceptable transcript befre yu start the prgram, Yu submit a Transfer Credit Request frm (n fee). Fr example, if yu tk a university chemistry curse, yu may get transfer credit fr a similar chemistry curse at Sask Plytech. 2. Equivalency Credit fr ne r mre Sask Plytech curses yu tk befre. Yu may have taken it frm ne f ur campuses, at a reginal cllege, r fr dual credit in high schl. See ur webpage fr mre infrmatin abut dual credit. Equivalency Credit is an ptin if The curse is the same r equal t a curse in yur current prgram. Yu passed the curse within the last 5 years. Ask fr an exceptin if yu have been using the knwledge since taking the curse. Yu listed the curse n yur Applicatin fr Admissin t a prgram. Yu submit a Prgram Adjustment frm (n fee) when registering fr curses in yur prgram. Fr a full-time, n-campus prgram, that is usually n the first day. Fr examples, if yu tk COMM 291 in ur Yuth Care Wrker prgram, it is equivalent t BCOM 103 in ur Office Administratin prgram. If yu tk ur DRFT 390 curse while in high schl, yu may get credit fr it in ur CAD/CAM Engineering Technlgy prgram. 3. PLAR credit fr prving what yu knw that matches ne r mre f ur curses. It des nt matter where yu learned it (schl, n the jb, r n yur wn). First apply fr all pssible transfer and/r equivalency credit because PLAR is mre wrk and cst. PLAR is an ptin if Yu cannt get transfer r equivalency credit fr the same curse(s). What yu already knw matches ne r mre curses in yur prgram. Yu are willing and able t prve what yu knw. Yur prgram head apprves a PLAR challenge. Yu submit the PLAR Applicatin frm and pay the PLAR assessment fee. Fr example, if yu learned cmputer skills at wrk, yu may be apprved fr a PLAR challenge fr ne f ur cmputer skills curses. Prir Learning Assessment and Recgnitin Medical Labratry Technlgy Page 5

6 Intrductin t PLAR Befre reading this guide, be sure yu are familiar with the PLAR 8-step prcess and FAQs fr Saskatchewan Plytechnic.
