Plicy statement r reference: The purpse f this plicy is t utline the prcess by which students are admitted int the first level f the Assciate Degree Nursing (ADN) Prgram. 2. Overview: ADN Admissin 3. Respnsible Party: Vice President f Academic Affairs, Directr f Nursing, Nursing Administrative Assistant and Nursing Selective Admissins Cmmittee 4. Prcedures: Preference Preference may be given t applicants wh have: abve-average (defined as a 3.0 GPA r higher) standing in high schl; an ACT cmpsite scre f 20; cmpleted 12 r mre credit hurs in the apprved nursing curriculum with a cumulative GPA f 3.0 r better frm any reginally accredited cllege. Applicatin Prcess 1. Applicants must be fully accepted t GCTC. 2. Applicants must have cmpleted all admissin requirements including, but nt limited t, submissin r cmpletin f placement scres, submissin f high schl transcript r GED, and submissin f transcripts frm all previusly attended clleges and universities. 3. Applicants must be listed as a credential-seeking student with GCTC listed as their hme campus. 4. Applicants must btain an applicatin packet frm the Nursing Department. 5. Applicants must submit the fllwing by the due dates indicated in the applicatin packet: a. Cmpleted applicatin b. Persnal letter t the Directr f Nursing stating why the applicant shuld be accepted int the nursing prgram c. Letter f recmmendatin frm a prfessinal clleague, r a cllege r high schl prfessr

Dcumentatin frm the Kentucky Bard f Nursing website shwing active status n the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry 6. Applicants are ranked by a selective admissin preference pints system. The pint system is established by the Nursing Department, Vice President f Academic Affairs, and the Selective Admissin Cmmittee, and is subject t change as deemed necessary by the abve named parties. a. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA f 2.5 r greater and have cmpleted the fllwing prerequisite curses with a grade f C r better n their fficial transcript by the deadline indicated in the applicatin packet t be cnsidered eligible. Applicants may be granted admissin with a cntingency f being added t the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry if the student has cmpleted NAA 100 with an acceptable grade, and has taken the KNAT prir t applying t the prgram. Failure t pass the KNAT wuld nullify the ffer fr admissin. 9. All applicants nt selected in the first rund may be placed n an alternate list. Alternates will be ntified fr admissin if psitins becme available prir t the start f the first semester curse. A new applicant and alternate list is started each applicatin perid; names d nt mve frward. 10. Students are ntified f acceptance r denial via mailed letter by the Directr f Nursing. a. Students ffered admittance int the Nursing Prgram must meet the requirements f the Acceptance / Admissin Prcess sectin f this dcument. b. Students denied admittance int the Nursing Prgram are eligible t apply in a future Nursing Prgram applicatin perid.

4 ii. Shuld the student wish t reapply, certain materials may be reused fr up t ne (1) academic year. (Fr example, letters cllected and pre-admissin exam attempts fr the purpses f entering NSG 101 in fall 2017, may be used fr purpses f entering NSG 101 in spring 2018, and will expire after that.) Prspective Students Wh Have Been Unsuccessful in ther Assciate Degree Nursing Prgram(s) 1. A prspective student wh has tw (2) unsuccessful academic/clinical attempts, (defined as C- r belw, WF, F, E r W r 77.99% r belw) in any previus nursing curse(s), in an Assciate Degree Nursing prgram ther than GCTC, is nt eligible t be cnsidered fr admissin int GCTC s ADN Prgram. 2. A prspective student wh has ne (1) unsuccessful academic/clinical attempt, (defined as C- r belw, WF, F, E, r W r 77.99% r belw) in any previus nursing curse, in an Assciate Degree Nursing prgram ther than GCTC, is eligible t be cnsidered fr admissin t the first semester f the GCTC ADN prgram. The prspective student must: a. meet all admissin requirements f the GCTC Nursing Prgram; b. submit a letter t the Directr f Nursing requesting cnsideratin fr admissin t the GCTC ADN prgram and utlining planned changes fr future success with nursing cursewrk; c. request ne (1) prfessinal letter f recmmendatin addressing the applicant s character and prfessinalism frm ne (1) f the fllwing: i. the previus nursing prgram s administratr; r ii. a clinical instructr wh taught the applicant; r iii. a classrm instructr wh taught the applicant; d. the prspective student shuld g thrugh the GCTC ADN prgram applicatin prcess. 3. The Nursing Selective Admissins Cmmittee will evaluate the prspective student s applicatin n an individual basis utilizing infrmatin frm the student letter, letters f recmmendatin and pre-nursing cursewrk. If it is determined that the student is eligible fr admissin, they will be placed in rank rder within the applicant pl based n earned pints accrding t the GCTC ADN admissin ranking criteria. Acceptance / Admissin Prcess 1. Upn being accepted int the Nursing Prgram, applicants are prvided with a list f requirements that must be delivered t the Nursing Department. Failure t fulfill the requirements by the deadlines

5 prvided in the acceptance letter culd vid the ffer f admittance. Requirements may include, but are nt limited t the fllwing: a. Sign, submit, and deliver a Letter f Intent, either accepting r denying the ffer f admittance t the Nursing Prgram. b. Schedule a ne-n-ne meeting with the Directr f Nursing. c. Cmplete a backgrund check and drug screen thrugh GCTC s vendr f chice. The cst f the backgrund check and drug screen must be brne by the student. Backgrund check and drug screens btained in the past and/r frm different vendrs will nt be cnsidered. Clinical/bservatin facilities have the right t deny student participatin in clinical rtatins upn review f adverse results. GCTC des nt accept respnsibility fr any student being ineligible fr clinical/bservatinal participatin based n adverse backgrund check r drug screens results. d. Submit required health-related dcumentatin t the Nursing Department (frm(s) will be prvided by GCTC s Nursing Department): Immunizatins/vaccinatins requirements are determined by the clinical agencies used by GCTC s Nursing Prgram. e. Pay tuitin fr the upcming semester by the due dates indicated in the GCTC Academic Calendar. f. Attend the mandatry rientatin(s) fr NSG 101, which take place the week prir t the start f classes. g. Purchase curse materials. (Infrmatin regarding curse materials will be prvided t the student upn acceptance t the prgram.)
