14 Prcedures fr Reslving Academic Dishnesty Issues At n pint in the prcedure may legal cunsel be present. Academic dishnesty prcedures begin with the faculty member. Based n the nature f the suspected infractin, the faculty member is encuraged t cnsult with the Prgram Directr t describe the infractin, the evidence and the penalties being cnsidered. The faculty member shuld als cntact the Vice President fr Academic Affairs' ffice t determine if the student has previusly been in vilatin f the Academic Dishnesty plicy. An Academic Dishnesty Reprting Frm may be filed with the Vice President fr Academic Affairs fr each vilatin, but if a frm is nt filed, the faculty member must ntify the student's advisr f the incident. A faculty member wh believes that a student has cmmitted academic dishnesty shuld meet (preferably in persn, but via alternate means if necessary) with the individual student abut the assignment, exam r activity within ten (10) business days f discvery f the vilatin. At the faculty member's ptin, the Prgram Directr may als be present fr this meeting. At this time, the faculty member needs t prvide the student with explicit and well-dcumented evidence supprting the faculty member s belief that the student has cmmitted academic dishnesty. The faculty member shuld prvide the student with a cpy f the Academic Dishnesty Reprting Frm (if a frm is filed), and a cpy f this Academic Dishnesty Plicy. The faculty member will then allw the student t address the allegatins. If the student cannt satisfactrily defend the allegatins, the faculty member will then tell the student what penalty will be impsed, and will fllw-up in writing (via r therwise) with the student t cnfirm the penalty. The written ntificatin will be prvided by the faculty member t the student within tw business days f the cnclusin f the meeting. The faculty member will als prvide a cpy f the written ntificatin t the student's advisr and t the Vice President fr Academic Affairs if an Academic Dishnesty Frm is filed. If an Academic Dishnesty Frm is filed, r in the event a student's advisr ntifies the Vice President fr Academic Affairs f a repeated ffense, the Vice President fr Academic Affairs will review the student s recrd and may impse additinal sanctins n the student, including prbatin r dismissal frm the Cllege. A student may appeal the faculty member's decisin, r any additinal penalty impsed by the Vice President fr Academic Affairs, as fllws: 1. The student must file a written appeal, including any dcumentatin the student deems pertinent t the appeal, with the ffice f the Vice President fr Academic Affairs within ten business days f receiving written ntice f the faculty member's decisin and/r ntice f any additinal penalties impsed by the Vice President fr Academic Affairs. 2. Within ten business days f the receipt f the student appeal, the Vice President fr Academic Affairs will cnvene the Academic Standards and Admissin Cmmittee (the "Cmmittee") t have a frmal hearing n the appeal. Only the five faculty members and tw student members f the Cmmittee will participate in the appeal - n ex ffici members will participate, and the Vice President fr Academic Affairs is specifically excluded frm the hearing prcess. If all Cmmittee members are nt available, the hearing may prceed as lng as fur faculty members and ne student member are available. The Cmmittee will be prvided with the fllwing: a. The student s letter f appeal and supprting dcumentatin b. Evidence f the vilatin frm the faculty member c. Academic Dishnesty Frm(s) d. Other dcumentatin pertinent t the appeal The hearing will be cnducted in a manner allwing the student t appear in persn if pssible. If that is nt pssible, the hearing may be cnducted by electrnic means. The Cmmittee may request additinal infrmatin (including dcumentatin and/r testimny) frm the parties invlved. The student will have an pprtunity t present evidence and argument t the Cmmittee if the student chses t d s. The Cmmittee will make its decisin based n prepnderance f the evidence and by majrity vte. 3. The Cmmittee will prvide the student, faculty member, Prgram Directr, and Vice President fr Academic Affairs a written reprt f its findings within seven business days f the hearing. 4. Shuld the student wish t appeal the Cmmittee findings, the student may file a written appeal specifying the student's disagreement with the Cmmittee decisin t the Vice President fr Academic Affairs within five business days f receiving the decisin frm the Cmmittee. N new evidence can be submitted n appeal. The Vice President fr Academic Affairs must issue a written decisin t the student within fifteen business days f receiving the appeal. The decisin f the Vice President fr Academic Affairs is final. Fr purpses f this plicy, the phrase "business days" means Mnday thrugh Friday, but excludes hlidays and days during which the Munt Marty Cllege campus ffices are clsed (e.g., Christmas Break, 11

15 Thanksgiving Break, Spring break, etc.). When Munt Marty Cllege campus ffices are clsed, the time fr actin will tll until the date campus ffices repen. T the extent that graduate students have a separate academic dishnesty prvisin in their prgram handbk, that prvisin will gvern. If there is n separate handbk fr the graduate prgram, this prcedure will gvern academic dishnesty issues in Munt Marty Cllege graduate prgrams, with the exceptin that the Graduate Cuncil (excluding the Vice President fr Academic Affairs) will perfrm all actin assigned t the Academic Standards and Admissin Cmmittee by this plicy. Adding and Drpping Classes The add/drp perid is the time during which students may adjust their academic curse schedule fr the term withut financial r transcript ntatin. The last day f the drp/add perid fr a curse is designated as the census date fr that curse and is the fficial date fr enrllment reprting fr the curse. Refer t the cllege calendar fr specific dates. After census date, a student may withdraw frm a curse thrugh 60% f the curse. Hwever, classes will remain n the transcript with a grade f W indicating withdrawal. Nn-standard curses will be calculated individually. After 60% f the term, n withdrawal will be permitted and the student must accept a final grade. All curse drps/withdrawals require apprval f the respective Prgram Directr and may result in prgram dismissal. Assessment Each graduate prgram will identify a cmprehensive assessment plan which will include ne r mre, but nt limited t, the fllwing: Cmprehensive exam Capstne prject Thesis/Prtfli prject Standardized natinal exam Attendance Instructrs are expected t state requirements fr class attendance in keeping with the nature and structure f the curse. It is expected that students attend all classes and participate in all planned clinical and seminar experiences. Graduate curses ffered in hybrid delivery frmat, cmbine face-t-face meetings and nline learning strategies. Students are expected t cmplete independent study between sessins via the Cllege learning management system. Online students are required t submit a graded assignment/discussin thrugh the Cllege learning management system during the first week f class. Students wh miss class are respnsible fr wrk missed. Absence may jepardize a student's understanding f curse cntent and may result in a grade reductin r failure f the curse. Failure t attend a curse des nt autmatically release a student frm financial bligatins assciated with that curse. Shuld a student decide t drp a class r withdraw frm the Cllege, the apprpriate paperwrk must be cmpleted with the Prgram Directr. Refer t the Munt Marty Cllege Administrative Initiated Withdrawal plicy fr additinal infrmatin. Class Status and Nrmal Lad Fr graduate students, a full-time student is defined as: Dctr f Nurse Anesthesia Practice Master f Science Master f Educatin 5 credits 7 credits 6 credits 12

16 A credit hur is an amunt f wrk represented in intended learning utcmes and verified by evidence f student achievement that is an institutinally established equivalency that reasnably apprximates nt less than: (1) ne hur f classrm r direct faculty instructin and a minimum f tw hurs f ut f class student wrk each week fr apprximately fifteen weeks fr ne semester r the equivalent amunt f wrk ver a different amunt f time; r (2) at least an equivalent amunt f wrk as required in paragraph (1) f this definitin fr ther activities as established by an institutin, including labratry wrk, internships, practica, studi wrk and ther academic wrk leading tward t the award f credit hurs. Curses delivered thrugh a nn-traditinal methd (e.g., nline, blended, accelerated, etc.) must meet the rigr and time requirements expected f traditinal face-t-face curse presentatin. Family Educatinal Rights & Privacy Act f 1974 (Buckley Amendment) The Family Educatinal Rights and Privacy Act f 1974, as amended (the Act ), is a federal law which requires that Munt Marty Cllege prtect students Educatin Recrds and Persnally Identifiable Infrmatin. Visit the Munt Marty Cllege Registrar s website fr the full plicy. Grade Change/Appeal Plicy At the beginning f each semester, instructrs will distribute cpies f their syllabi which will utline their grading plicy. Cpies f all syllabi are maintained in the Vice President fr Academic Affair s ffice. If a student has a questin cncerning a curse grade, he r she shuld arrange t discuss the grade with the instructr befre the end f the secnd week f the fllwing term. This discussin may result in ne f three actins: n change in grade, changes in the grade by the instructr r a grade appeal by the student. Grade changes are generally nly due t an errr in recrding r psting a grade. Students are nt allwed t cmplete extra wrk in rder t imprve their grade nce the term has ended. If the instructr in determinatin f a grade r in reprting the grade has made an errr, the instructr may submit a grade change frm t the registrar s ffice. Any errr nt reprted within ne mnth f the beginning f the fllwing regular term must have apprval frm the Vice President fr Academic Affairs befre a change may be made t the student s recrd. A changed grade replaces the riginal reprted grade and autmatically changes the cumulative GPA. If a student believes an instructr has vilated the distributed grading plicy fr the curse, r the student believes the instructr has assigned a grade incnsistently r with malicius intent, the student may appeal the grade using the fllwing prcedures. 1. The first step in the appeal prcess is t discuss the grade with the instructr. 2. If the discussin with the instructr des nt reslve the issue fr the student, the student must then speak with the Prgram Directr. 3. If the discussin with the Prgram Directr des nt reslve the issue fr the student, the student must then speak with the Vice President fr Academic Affairs. 4. If the infrmal prcess des nt reslve the issue, he r she must then file a frmal written appeal t the Graduate Cuncil with a cpy prvided t the Vice President fr Academic Affairs. The Vice President fr Academic Affairs ntifies the Prgram Directr and faculty member that a frmal appeal has been filed. This must be accmplished within ne mnth f the end f the infrmal prcess. The vting members f the Graduate Cuncil will cnvene a frmal hearing regarding the appeal within tw weeks f receipt. The cmmittee will prepare written findings within seven days f the hearing. The Munt Marty Cllege traditin f service learning and utreach t underserved ppulatins has stimulated the develpment f a master in nursing prgram with specialties that will reach thse ppulatins and beynd. External frces that supprt and demand this prgram are recent issues in rural health care and health care refrm. With a strng emphasis n health prmtin and disease preventin, the learning utcmes frm this master s prgram are based n the Essentials fr Master s in Nursing as published by the American Assciatin f Clleges f Nursing. Family Nurse Practitiners (FNPs) are clinical experts wh implement a hlistic apprach that emphasizes bth care and cure. They apply cutting-edge science and manage the health needs f patients in primary care settings. The fcus f the FNP prgram is t prvide the academic knwledge and clinical skills necessary fr health prmtin, disease preventin, assessment, and management f cmmn acute and chrnic illnesses. Upn cmpletin f the master s prgram, students will be eligible t take the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy f Nurse Practitiners (AANP) certificatin examinatin.
