5 learning Workshops Wednesday, June 27 1:00PM to 4:00PM (MI)ssion 2-1-1: Advancing Community Conditions and United Way s Significance with Today Join us for the world premiere of Michigan 211 s new platform that ties ALICE data into 211 analytics. This product is in its beta testing phase and they will be demoing it just for us. In this rich pre-conference event we will see examples of how 211 data can be used in campaign rallies to create a hyper-local presentation on its effectiveness in our communities. We will explore the state integration and what that means for us, we will tap into marketing and resource development opportunities through 211, get updates on the future vision of 211, learn how to customize access to 211 Marketing Tool Kits and more. Intro to United Way New to United Way? Join us for an overview of United Way s mission, vision, history, brand, structure, development, and current business model. Participants will explore some of the most important issues currently facing United Way, including ways to maximize revenue growth in this competitive environment, and solve community problems. Thursday, june 28 10:00AM to 11:30AM Advocacy 101 for Impact Government is the leading funder/provider of health and human services and public policies fundamentally affect the communities we serve. Effective advocacy gives United Ways the ability to make impact at scale and is a fundamental strategy to advance their missions. Join this session to learn the basics of why and how volunteers, donors and partners can advocate to maximize impact for Michigan children and families. This session will demystify advocacy and build case for why it s a critical tool for nonprofits and boards. It will share strategies and tactics for how we advocate as United Ways. Financial Management Explore using policies to guide your work including investment policy, designation policy, conflict of interest, donor privacy, reserve fund, purchasing (for those managing federal dollars), as well as the use of UWW Operations Self-Assessment Checklist, the role of the Finance Committee, how to develop and maintain internal controls with limited staff, and classifying costs. Rapidly Growing Corporate Donations & Multi-Year (Corporate) Gifts via Mutually Beneficial Corporate Partnerships Corporate Giving is an area of massive potential growth for United Way. But in order to grow, we must revolutionize the way we engage with - and ultimately ask businesses for dollars. Additionally, the current United Way model typically allows for us to receive dollars from Community Relations type of funds this limits our current potential. In general, these community funds are both shrinking and becoming highly competitive (with more and more nonprofits forming in our communities). Therefore, United Way must separate itself from others to truly become the nonprofit of choice while at the same time competing for dollars in new areas, or buckets (chiefly Employee Engagement and Marketing dollars). Together, we ll explore how to bundle current United Way services and products in a way that would bring a corporation real value value they d be willing to pay for. Namely, we ll explore three areas of considerable value to a corporation where United Way can assist. Employee Engagement, Impacting Community, and Marketing/ Brand Uplift. By doing so, we ll share how the United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region has been able to secure multiple new or increased corporate gifts (most of which are multiyear commitments) by building these new corporate partnerships.

6 Thursday, june 28 2:30PM to 4:30PM Corporate Engagement:New Generation of Tools to Engage the Corporate Donor United Way s relationships with companies can no longer be centered around the annual campaign and fundraising. In an ever-changing world where philanthropic choice is at everyone s fingertips, now is the time to set ourselves apart and show our value-add. This session will explore why we must go beyond engaging companies solely during campaign season and instead foster year-round engagement. We will explore some tools that United Ways can utilize to excite companies about our impact and show the potential partnership. Technology and Marketing There are many inexpensive and innovative ways to use technology to make United Way s work better, faster, and more strategic. But small United Ways with limited staff and limited capacity may not know what the options are, or even where to start exploring them. This session will give practical examples of how one mid-sized United Way utilized technology to greatly enhance marketing and communications efforts with corporate partners and the community in general. Non Traditional Campaigns and Fund Development Hear how traditional elements like Community Leader sessions, Campaign Planning Workshops and Loaned Campaign Specialists have slowed donor loss and increased campaign revenue. With a nod to honoring what works, learn how United Ways have embraced and created new ideas around e-pledging, texting, enhancing donor experiences and partnering with companies to develop corporate matching strategies. Disaster or Emergency. What do you do? What do you do in a natural disaster? What do you do if your community is facing a crisis? What is your responsibility? What does your community expect of you? Do you know if you are in the emergency plan for your county? Who will lead? Quite a few questions come to mind when there is a community emergency. Preparing for disruptions will ready your United Way for any disaster. We will discuss the disruptions your community might face in the wake of a disaster or community emergency, and what you can do now to better prepare. Don t be caught off guard!

7 FRIDAY, june 29 10:15AM to 11:45AM Creating Volunteer Programs that Generate Revenue Creating experiences that inform and inspire United Way donors to act is essential to achieving our mission and critical to growing our business. Participants will learn about strategies to plan, resource, and execute projects that engage employee volunteers in ways that build and deepen their relationship with United Way, generate revenue and drive impact in education, health and financial stability. Global Results Framework - Telling Your Story The Global Results Framework is a common set of indicators that aggregates United Way s work across communities to demonstrate our ability to deliver change at scale. In 2018, we rolled out the framework more broadly across our network to enable more United Ways to report data. In this session, we will share preliminary aggregated data for 2018, hear the experiences of United Ways in the region that reported data this year, and discuss ways that United Ways can best leverage the data, visual tools, and key messages with local donors and companies. You ve Met ALICE - Now What? United Ways across Michigan are leveraging the ALICE Report and resources to raise awareness and conscientiousness, stimulate conversations and create innovative solutions that offer ALICE and our communities a better future, while improving the social condition of our state and our broader economy. This session will provide an opportunity for you to learn and share ALICE initiatives such as Employee Resource Networks (ERNs), Mission United, School Breakfast, child care solutions and the ALICE VISTA Cohort.
