Old Business Sarah Jhansen, MD Curriculum Update Greg Ogrinc, MD Suggestin: Lk at Y3 when lking at Y4. When will new Y1 curse directrs be annunced? Next week: chair, faculty annunced as cmplete package (twn hall) What d yu invasin feel in Y1 curses next year cmpared t this year? Cnsistency in leadership f curses & day-t-week basis; curse directr ding bulk f teaching. Are we lsing a little/a lt f faculty that wrk in the curses? Gd cntinuity in secnd year curse directrs; 1 faculty turnver frm year-t-year. 2 new curse directrs being replaced. All clinicians fr teaching used at DH. Change in paymaster: dn t knw wh it will affect. Next year will be harder t get 10 dcs t teach fr 16 hurs because f greater prductivity pressures put n by the clinic in each sectin. Have the students been interested/wrried? Always curis and interested in what s ging n. A lt f questins abut it at the last meeting but seemed t get their questins answered. Health and Values VIG Update Bill Nelsn, PhD Charge: 1) Review current curriculum and see where themes frm health and values are currently in curriculum dcument sent utlines this; evlving dcument. 2) Create a set f gals and bjectives t integrate in the curriculum Lked last mnth; sme bjectives were changed t make less granular. Prpsing that gals and bjectives are integrated thrughut all 4 years; if apprved then implementatin and leadership n hw that gets dne is mre in the ffice f medical educatin. Thse are mre urgent. Gaps in the intrductin t sme f these themes. Launch int them but have n intrductin; why is health law imprtant. Hw t d an ethical analysis. 1 spt where it is identified in research ethics; what is ethical criteria fr human subject research? Curse bjectives in ethics and humanities but n sessin bjectives that tie t that and vice versa. Link sme f the themes with the PBL curses. They may nt be assessed r reviewed. Is this what peple are lking fr? Nt the intentin f the MEC t think abut hurs, but want t apprve bjectives and gals Hard t imagine there wuld be a lt f bjectins t general gals; time devted, where in curriculum delivered, etc. We re nt lking fr mre hurs; there is unintentinal redundancy in the curriculum. There are 2 sessins in neurlgy ding exactly the same thing. But we need t crdinate existing hurs. If MEC apprves the integratin, MedEd is prepared t find a way t supprt it. Final versin is thughtful and integrates mre themes than it did previusly. May need t be adjusted with the changes ging n in healthcare. Hear frm them regularly; kept abreast f the lgistical issues f hw it relates t the MEC. Prpsed mtin that was drafted by Bill Nelsn was psted. There are students that dn t want t care fr a patient even if the physician desn t agree with their attitude r plitical stance fr instance. There shuld be a discussin t address these issues yu can t pick and chse patients. Cncern: understanding the care relatinship between a patient that desn t share yur values; what level is the required respnsibility.
