4 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AGE REQUIREMENTS Student must be of 18 years or older to be eligible for admission. ENGLISH REQUIREMENT Student must have minimum 5.5 Band overall (with no band less than 5.0) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE) ACADEMIC REQUIREMENT Student must have completed year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC. DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT METHODS All the courses are designed for overseas student on full-time face to face mode. Training delivered on classroom based sessions, include theory classes and practical sessions involving small groups and individual activities. Assessment methods include: case study scenario analysis written questions, workplace simulations, role plays and Project/reports. *Course specific entry requirements can be find out with the specific course information.

5 ENGLISH ENGLISH FOR GENERAL PURPOSE BEGINNERS TO ADVANCED LEVEL CRICOS Code: M Duration: 80 weeks Campus: Sydney and Canberra Intake: April and July The English for General Purposes course focuses on everyday functional English and facilitates learner understanding of the language, communication and conventions used in an Englishspeaking country. The course aims to provide students with a learning environment that is as close as possible to common everyday situations in Australia and is also designed around common student-based requirements. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AHMI offers six levels of English for General Purposes Beginner, Elementary, Pre- Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced. Intermediate to Advanced courses are particularly suited to the needs of students who possess a moderate English proficiency level, have previously studied English and now wish to extend their English proficiency to a more advanced level. Many students progress to further education courses when they finish their English language studies. To meet these needs, students are exposed to a range of listening, reading, writing and speaking activities. Exposure to a range of different writing tasks, for example, helps students practise the different forms of writing that they would be expected to use when taking future courses of study. AHMI PATHWAYS INTO THE QUALIFICATION It is strongly recommended that individuals entering this qualification hold a General English (ELICOS) Course certificate at Upper Intermediate or above OR the equivalent of International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) 2+, OR The equivalent of Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) 4, OR Complete the CBC s placement test. COURSE STRUCTURE ELEMENTARY 16 WEEKS DURATION The Elementary course takes students who have completed the Beginners course successfully or who have had sufficient exposure to English to enable them to be classified at Elementary level. The choice of a theme for each week is prescribed. Teachers may incorporate complementary themes into the program to provide a broader range of grammatical structures and situational language. Students who progress at a slower rate than expected can take advantage of the rotational system and repeat part or all of the course.

6 ENGLISH PRE-INTERMEDIATE 16 WEEKS DURATION The Pre-Intermediate course takes students who have completed the Elementary course successfully or who have had sufficient exposure to English to enable them to be classified at Pre-Intermediate level. The choice of a theme for each week is prescribed. Teachers may incorporate complementary themes into the program to provide a wider range of grammatical structures and situational language. Students who progress at a slower rate than expected can take advantage of the rotational system and repeat part or all of the course. INTERMEDIATE 16 WEEKS DURATION The Intermediate course takes students who have completed at least a Pre-intermediate course or, on completion of a placement test, demonstrate at least a Pre-intermediate proficiency level. The choice of a theme for each week is prescribed. Teachers may incorporate complementary themes into the program to extend the student s knowledge and use of grammatical structures, writing genres, text, types and situational language. Students who progress at a slower rate than expected can take advantage of the rotational system and repeat part or all of the course. UPPER-INTERMEDIATE 16 WEEKS DURATION Students who have completed the Intermediate course successfully may progress to this course level. The weekly theme is chosen from a list of 24 themes, each with a week s worth of prescribed structures and functions designed to build progressively to a high level of language Proficiency. Themes may also last for less than or more than a week depending on the progress being made in the classroom. ADVANCED 16 WEEKS DURATION The Advanced course takes students who have completed the Upper Intermediate course successfully (or who have had sufficient exposure to English to enable them to be classified Advanced level). The weekly theme is chosen from a list of 24 themes, each with a week s worth of structures and functions prescribed. Themes may also last for less than or more than a week depending on the progress being made in the classroom. LEARNING OUTCOMES While learning our English for General Purpose s course you will: Practise a range of different writing styles and learn the appropriate language features to use when constructing written texts. Read different text types such as news articles and learn to answer different comprehension question forms Listen to a variety of real-life listening tasks Practise your speaking skills with your fellow students in a wide range of every-day interpersonal and transactional scenarios.

At this level, enrolled nurses integrate and adapt specialised, technical and theoretical knowledge CAREER OPPORTUNITIES to address a diverse range of clinical situations and challenges in their area of specialisation. 21 REFUND POLICY If AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute receives fees paid in arrears, then the refund policy is not applicable. For those students who pay their fees in advance the following applies: If an applicant accepts a place offered by AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute and pays the fees, it means a binding contract is created between the student and AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute. Under current legislation, there are many circumstances where a student may be in default. Notification of cancellation/withdrawal from unit/s of competency, withdrawal or deferral from a course of study must be made in writing to AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute. In the case of cancellation/withdrawal, the cancellation fee will be calculated as shown at Table 1. AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute offers the following information in relation to refunds of course fee in the case of student and provider default: 1. amounts that may or may not be repaid to the student; 2. processes for claiming a refund; 3. a plain English explanation of what happens in the event of a course not being delivered; and 4. a statement that This agreement, and the availability of complaints and appeals processes, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia s consumer protection laws. All refunds made to students will incur $1000 administrative fee which will be withheld from the refund amount. If the student is refused a visa offshore, AHMI will provide a full refund except the enrolment & admin fee. If the student is refused a visa onshore after the visa grant, AHMI will provide a refund of unused tuition fees except the enrolment & Admin fee. If the seats in the course are full or the course is cancelled, a full refund of fees will be made without the enrolment fee & admin fee. No refunds apply after the visa is granted on a course or a package of courses offered by AHMI (except in the event of applicant s demise) OHSC Refunds will be done as per health cover provider policies. All refunds will be paid within 28 working days. Refund of student tuition fees may be given in the following circumstances: If enrolment is withdrawn more than 10 weeks prior to the agreed starting day, 20% of the Tuition Fee shall be retained by AHMI. If enrolment is withdrawn between four to ten weeks prior to the agreed starting day, 30% of the Tuition Fee shall be retained by AHMI. If the enrolment is withdrawn less than 4 weeks prior to the agreed starting day, 70% of the Tuition Fee shall be retained by AHMI. No refunds will be given after your studies have commenced. A total or partial refund is applicable when: Withdrawal Reason Withdrawal at least four weeks prior to agreed start date Withdrawal less than four weeks prior to agreed start date Withdrawal after the agreed start date Course withdrawn by AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute is unable to provide the course for which the original offer was made Amount Refunded Refund equal to 80% of the tuition fees less admiration fee of $1000 Refund equal to 50% of the tuition fees less admiration fee of $1000 No refund Full refund Full refund Table 1

22 REFUND POLICY AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute Default This policy applies to a student or an intending student in relation to a course if: 1. The course does not start on the agreed starting day; or 2. The course ceases to be provided at any time after it starts but before it is completed; or 3. The course is not provided in full to the student because a sanction has been imposed on AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute; and 4. The student has not withdrawn before the default day. AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute will make a refund within four (4) weeks of Provider default or receiving a written claim by the student in accordance with the Terms and Conditions as outlined on the Enrolment/Application Form this forming the written agreement with the registering student. All refund considerations will be strictly limited to the total of monies which AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute has actually received. The refund calculation will not include: 1. Application/enrolment fees are non-refundable; 2. If a student notifies AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute of their intention to withdraw from individual units or a program before their original start date, then they will be eligible to receive a refund minus a $500 administration charge/application fee; 3. No refunds will be given for notification of withdrawal which occurs after the start of the program. The exception to this is noted in paragraph four (4). 4. Once training has commenced in the course e.g. Diploma of Business (Pre-enrolment), no refund is available to participants who leave before finalising the course unless the student can provide a medical certificate or show extreme personal hardship. In that case, fees may be refunded on a pro-rata basis, minus the administrative fee/deposit. However, should participants wish to resume their studies at a later date, the original fee payment can be used as credit towards that course within twelve months of initial payment. Refund requests should be made in writing. 5. the part of expenses for travel, bank charges, accommodation and other domestic services that cannot be offset by providing the services to someone else; 6. compulsory union fees; 7. the cost of books, equipment and other materials needed for the course; 8. proportion of course money received for the proportion of the course provided to the student before the default date; 9. If a student notifies AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute of their intention to withdraw before the original start date and are eligible for a refund as per paragraph three (3) above, then the refund will be paid within four (4) weeks of AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute receiving your request for refund. 10. No academic penalty will be incurred if a student notifies AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute of their intention to withdraw from individual units or a program before the end of week four (4) of the semester. 11. All fees and charges are payable upon invoice and will cover a period of the impending study period. Students may be precluded from sitting exams, receiving results or attending classes if tuition fees are not paid by the date specified on the invoice. 12. Any refund will be paid to the person or entity that originally paid the course fees and, where possible, in the same currency in which the fees were paid. 13. Fees may be subject to change without notice. In all circumstances AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute will provide a statement and an explanation of how the refund was calculated and make fully available access to AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute Grievance Policy. This agreement and the availability of AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute complaints and appeals process, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia s consumer protection laws.

23 REFUND POLICY Refund Circumstances AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute reserves the right to exclude students from class when fees are not paid; This agreement and the availability of the complaints and appeals procedure does not remove the students rights to take action under Australia s consumer protection laws; The AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute dispute resolution process does not circumscribe the student s right to pursue other legal remedies; and Refer to AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute s complaints and appeals procedure if you wish to appeal the refund policy. Tuition fees are not transferable to another person or institution. AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute reserves the right to change, alter or amend curricula, syllabi, course structure, fees and/or any other matter pertaining to the provision of a course at any time. Such changes, alterations and amendments may be made without notice. If AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute has to change any of the above conditions for any reason, all students will be notified of the change in writing. Refunds will be paid to the party who originally paid the fees. Fees will not be refunded directly to a student if it was not them who originally paid the fees. Refunds will be paid no later than four (4) weeks after the application for refund is made. Refunds will only be paid to the person who enters into the contract with AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute unless AHMI Australian Health and Management Institute receives written direction to pay the refund to somebody else.
