NPT is a licensed health care provider with a comprehensive knowledge of current patient transport, basic and advanced life support health practices. Our simulation-based clinical skills training programs are guaranteed to make participants confident in the application of skills in the Non-Emergency Patient Transport sector. Qualification based courses are delivered at NPT offices in Victoria (Mt Waverley or North Sunshine) or if required at Client premises anywhere in Australia. Our experienced educators will ensure participants are competent to deal with non-emergency situations and will adapt content and scenarios to be relevant to your industry. NPT HEART face to face and hands on sessions focus on a skills based approach in the use of on-site emergency equipment and practical scenarios and will reinforce industry and legislative protocols where applicable. On successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport which is nationally recognised qualification in accordance with the Australian Skills Quality Authority, the National regulator for vocational education and training. 2 INTRODUCTION [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN HLT31115 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport is designed for workers providing non-emergency patient transport and care of patients who have non-acute or chronic illness or disability and require transport. Working in the role of a Patient Transport Officer, you will required to provide appropriate patient assessment, follow procedures for safe removal of a patient for transport. The first 8 units are the core units and the following five units are those selected by NPT Heart to ensure that you have the specific skills and competencies required by the Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) sector. 3 COURSE STRUCTURE & D ELIVERY [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN This course is delivered by NPT Heart s qualified Trainers and Clinical Instructors as a hands on program, delivered at the training offices of National Patient Transport Pty Ltd, the leader of NEPT services within Victoria. This provides students with a unique opportunity to train and operate within a real life workplace setting. The course has been designed as a mixed mode delivery program which includes a combination of e-learning, pre-reading workbooks and assessments coupled with face to face practical sessions. Due to the practical nature of the classroom based sessions, students should enrol as soon as possible to provide sufficient time to complete the mandatory pre-reading and assessment tasks. The face-to-face training includes 15 days with 3 blocks of 5 x 8 hour class room sessions. The blocks may be undertaken consecutively or undertaken in 3 separate blocks based on the individual s availability. In addition to the 15 days of face-to-face training, students will require to complete their e-learning, pre-reading and assessments. It is estimated that this will require a further weeks to complete however students may be able to complete in a shorter time based on the students prior knowledge and experience. This work must be undertaken prior to attendance at the face-to-face classroom sessions. Students will have up to 12 months to complete this course. As some of the course material and assessments will be accessed through an e-learning package, students must have access to a reliable computer with MS Office or MAC equivalent, printer, internet access. Subject fees do not include computers, printers, software and/or internet access. The face-to-face component of the course is conducted over 3 blocks of 5 days which are held over consecutive weeks i.e. 15 days of face to face training and assessment. Participants have the option to either enrol in the 3 consecutive blocks or enrol in individual blocks of 1 week over a longer period of time. Driver training is held in Block 1 and work placements which includes 2 days on the road working with National Patient Transport s crews in a real life setting is held in Block 3. One day is defined as an observer shift where students are able to observe NPT crews working in a real life environment. The other day is defined as a work placement where students will be working with a Clinical Instructor and working under supervision with real patients. 3

Shift times and locations can be accommodated to meet student s needs. For details on what is covered in each unit of competency please refer to ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no academic pre-requisites for this course however students are required to demonstrate to NPT Heart that they: Are able to speak and write English and possess developed literacy and numeracy skills to the following Australian Core Skills Foundation (ACSF) levels: Learning : 4 Reading : 3 Writing : 3 Oral Communication : 3 Numeracy : 3 The industry has an expectation that workers are able to communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms. Students will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment prior enrolment into the course. A link to this assessment will be ed to students upon receipt of the Application Form. Have the physical capacity and flexibility to freely walk, bend and twist, perform safe lifting techniques and perform general ambulance duties. The first aid competency units require 4
5 [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN that students are able to perform at least two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin placed on the floor. Hold a current unrestricted Australian State or Territory Drivers Licence this is a requirement for the driving components of the course. A copy of the student s driver s licence must be supplied with the Application Form. Current National Police Check (less than 6 months old) and a current Working with Children Check. As the course requires undertaking work placements working with real patients, these are requirements for all persons working within the NEPT Sector. These must be supplied prior to enrolment in the course. UNIQUE STUDENT IDENT IFIER (USI) From 1 January 2015 all students undertaking nationally recognised training delivered by a registered training organisation will need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI gives students access to their online USI account which is made up of ten numbers and letters. It will look something like this: 3AW88YH9U5. A USI account will contain all of a student s nationally recognised training records and results from 1 January 2015 onwards. A student s results from 2015 will be available in their USI account in Individuals who have a genuine personal objection to being assigned a USI can apply for an exemption to the Student Identifiers Registrar. Please refer to for more information. H O W T O GET A USI It is free and easy for students to create their own USIs online. Steps to create a USI Step 1 Have at least one and preferably two forms of ID ready from the list below: Driver s Licence Medicare Card Australian Passport Visa (with Non-Australian Passport) for international students Birth Certificate (Australian) Certificate Of Registration By Descent Citizenship Certificate Immi Card IMPORTANT: To make sure we keep all a student s training records together, the USI will be linked to the student s name as it appears on the form of ID used to create the USI. The personal details entered when a student creates a USI must match exactly with those on their form of ID. Step 2 Have contact details ready (e.g. address, or mobile number, or address). Step 3 Visit the USI website at: usi.gov.au. 5
6 Step 4 Select the Create a USI link and follow the steps. Step 5 Agree to the Terms and Conditions. [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN Step 6 Follow the instructions to create a USI it should only take a few minutes. Upon completion, the USI will be displayed on the screen. It will also be sent to the student s preferred method of contact. Step 7 Write down the USI and keep it somewhere handy and safe. SKILLS RECOGNITION NPT Heart Pty Ltd recognises that participants may have acquired vocational skills from a variety of different sources, including other formal training. These skills are valid, irrespective of how they were acquired. Participants who believe they have skills and knowledge that would be covered in the training programs offered by NPT Heart should complete a Pre-Training Review which is included as part of the course application form. NPT Heart will then assess the participants previous skills, experience and knowledge assessed and where appropriate have an individual training plan developed. Participants eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) prior to the commencement of the training program will be provided with a RPL package upon receipt of the Pre-Training Review documentation. Fees for submitting an RPL are 75% of the unit price. For details of the unit prices please contact NPT Heart. RPL will not be assessed until receipt of the RPL Fee. A detailed invoice is issued once an application and the participant has demonstrated they meet the LLN requirements of the course. All fees are required to be paid up-front before formal assessment of the application takes place. In addition to Recognition of Prior Learning, NPT Heart also offers National Recognition (NR) and Credit Transfer (CT) for students who are able to provide evidence that that they have completed formal training through another organisation. Applications for NR or CT will incur an administrative fee of $30 per unit. 6
7 COURSE INFORMATION QUALIFICATION OUTCOME SCHEDULE DRESS CODE MEALS RESOURCES ASSESSMENTS [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN HLT31115 Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport Completion of this course will provide participants with the appropriate qualifications to work as a Patient Transport Officer (PTO) within the non-emergency patient transport sector. Students must also complete issued pre-reading and assessment tasks prior to attendance at the face-to-face classroom sessions. Completion of these tasks varies from between 10 weeks to 12 weeks depending on a student s prior knowledge and experience of the health industry. 15 days (weekdays) of face to face including 2 days of work placement to under take assessments. This can be completed over 15 consecutive days or in separate blocks of 5 days each. Refer to the Training Calendar for more details. Class Times : Due to the practical nature of the program, students are required to wear clothing that is appropriate to the task and the industry. Specifically: - Long trousers - Enclosed flat, non-slip sturdy shoes or boots - Tops that are not low cut or revealing - When undertaking the work placements, students are required to wear navy or black trousers with a white or light blue collared shirt. Students will be given a NPT vest to wear (this vest remains the property of NPT) Further information regarding this requirement will be given during the course introduction. The training venue provides tea and coffee and students will have access to a fridge and microwave. Upon enrolment and payment of fees, students will be sent the prescribed text book, Emergency First Aid (John Haines) and provided with access to NPT Heart s e-learning package. Some of the units are not currently available via the e-learning package therefore students will given participant guides during the face to face sessions. This course includes various assessment methods: - Short answer questions - Observations (Skills assessments) - Scenario assessments - Projects - Presentations Assessments are required to be completed both online and also during the face-to-face sessions. There will be a final assessment that will be required to be completed at the completion of the face-to-face sessions. Throughout the face-to-face sessions, some short answer assessments may also be given. NPT Heart recognises that not all participants learn in the same manner, and that with an amount of reasonable adjustment participants who may not learn best with traditional learning and assessment methods will still achieve good results. COURSE FEES Full Fee paying student - $4,500 Eligible for Victorian Government Funding (this fee covers administration and course material fees): Non-concession - $450 Concession - $90 (a copy the applicable eligibility for concession must be attached to this application e.g. Health Care Card) 7

This will not deducted until the student as successfully completed the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. Payment can be made via cash, credit card, EFT, cheque or money order. Upon commencement of the course, any outstanding fees can be paid in 3 instalments prior to the commencement of each module however the full amount must be paid prior to commencing the face to face practical sessions. 9 [HLT31115 CERTIFICATE III IN ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR FUNDING (VI C ONLY) NPT Heart holds a VET Funding Contract for 2018 under the Skill First Program. You may be eligible for government-subsidised training. If you are eligible, the government will contribute to the cost of training. In order to be eligible for subsidised training, an individual must: a) Be either: i. An Australian citizen; ii. A holder of a permanent visa; or iii. A New Zealand citizen b) Be enrolling in a nationally recognised training course that is at a higher qualification level than the highest qualification level than the highest qualification held at the time of the scheduled commencement of training i.e. upskilling ; c) Not commence more than two courses subsidised through the Skills First Program in a calendar year. If you have enrolled in a course(s) that is scheduled to commence at a later date in that calendar year, this course(s) must be counted for the purposes of this requirement; d) Not undertake more than two courses subsidised through the Skills First Program at any one time; e) Not commence a maximum of two government subsidised training courses at the same level within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) in their lifetime; f) Not commence a maximum of two government subsidised accredited courses with the title Course in in their lifetime. NPT Heart will assist students to determine if they are eligible for government funding through the completion of the Application Form & Pre-Training Review form.
