CHC33015 - Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing; Disability; Home and Community) This course is subsidised by the SA Government's WorkReady initiative.

This new qualification comprises three different streams - Ageing, Disability and Home and Community Care.

1 CHC Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing; Disability; Home and Community) This course is subsidised by the SA Government's WorkReady initiative. This qualification supersedes Certificate III in Aged Care, Home and Community Care and Disability and is now the standard qualification for the industry. This new qualification comprises three different streams - Ageing, Disability and Home and Community Care. The three streams share seven core units and them branch off to include six specific electives according to your chosen stream or combination of streams. Ageing The Ageing specialisation will provide the skills to commence a career in the community services industry and can provide a pathway into Certificate IV in Ageing Support or the Diploma of Nursing. The focus of study is the well-being and independence appropriate to the aged person s emotional, social and physical wellbeing. This course educates in the skills required to work as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) in an aged care facility, a community support worker, a home care assistant or a community care worker. The skills gained are those required to support and care for older people. Students will learn how to provide personal care, support to an older person in activities of daily living, and support the older person to meet emotional and psychological needs, provide care and support for individual with dementia and work effectively with culturally diverse clients. This qualification consists of 13 units; 7 core and 6 electives. (see over)

2 Ageing Stream Units Ageing Specialisation Units include: CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia Additional Elective Units CHCPAL001 Deliver care services using a palliative approach Disability The Disability specialisation will provide the skills to support and care for people with disabilities. Students will learn how to provide personal care, support to people in activities of daily living, assist to meet emotional and psychological needs, provide care and support for individuals with complex needs and work effectively with culturally diverse clients. As a student you will focus on work health and safety, communication skills and learn about individualised plans for the person with a disability. This qualification may provide an appropriate pathway into higher level Disability or Community Services as well as pathways to university courses such as Social Sciences, Social Work and Psychological Science. Students also have the option to choose to specialise in more than one area. For example students who are interested in both the Ageing and Disability specialisations can choose to specialise in both and complete the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability). 3 Disability Stream Units Disability Specialisation Units include: CHCDIS001 Contribute to ongoing skills development using strength-based approach CHCDIS003 Support community participation and social inclusion CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with a disability Additional Elective Units Home and Community Care This qualification reflects the role of workers in the home and community care setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason and are living in their own homes. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support. Students also have the option to choose to specialise in more than one area. For example students who are interested in both the Ageing as well as the Home and Community specialisations can choose to specialise in both and complete the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Home and Community). This qualification consists of 13 units; 7 core and 6 electives.

4 Home and Community Care Stream Home and Community Specialisation Units include: CHCAGE001 Facilitate the empowerment of older people CHCCCS025 Support relationships with carers and families Additional Units CCHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia Course Fees and Inclusions This course is subsidised by the SA Government's WorkReady initiative Student Investment: (as at 1st April, 2018) Provided Resources Incidentals: (not included in fee) $330 payable at enrolment for applicants eligible for Govt. subsidy $2250 (incuding a $250 non-refundable deposit) for Fee for Service applicants Textbook, Additional print resources; ID Badge; Folder; Nursing Buddy Uniform: White Shirt and Black/Navy pants and dark, closed-in, non-slip shoes National Police Clearance Cost of any replacement resources due to loss or damage

5 Delivery Options Delivery Modes: Day - Blended Evening - Blended 2 contact days per week for 15 weeks plus 1 individual tutorial day per week for 15 weeks plus 1.5 days per week additional home study for 15 weeks 3 x full-time consecutive weeks mandatory work placement 2 contact evenings per week for 17 weeks plus 1 individual tutorial day per week for 17 weeks plus 1.5 days per week additional home study for 17 weeks 3 x full-time consecutive weeks mandatory work placement Duration Students are offered the flexibility to adjust their training plan to take up to 12 months to complete the self-paced theory units of the course.
