7 LITERACY When you complete your qualification, you will need to be registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA). AHPRA have a minimum English language requirement. To ensure that you will meet that requirement, you must have attained adequate English levels, as indicated in one of the ways listed below. Schooling in English Written evidence of the completion of four (4) years education in English at secondary, vocational or tertiary level in EITHER Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States of America You will need to provide evidence in one of the formats below. A letter from your high school stating that you attended for at least 4 years School reports for at least 4 years A statutory declaration that you attended secondary school for 4 years Vocational or tertiary study that adds up to 4 years Successful completion of a recognised English test If you have not done your school/ vocational training in English, you will need to successfully complete ONE of the tests listed below. INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS) ACADEMIC test. Achievement of a minimum of 7 on each band (reading, writing, speaking and listening) OCCUPATIONAL ENGLISH TEST FOR NURSES (OET). Achievement of a pass at A or B level in each of the four components (reading, writing, listening and speaking) PTE ACADEMIC Minimum overall score of 65 and a minimum score of 65 in each of the four communicative skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) TOEFL ibt Minimum total score of 94 and the following minimum score in each section of the test: 24 for listening 24 for reading 27 for writing 23 for speaking Version 1.0 Page 7 of 10
