1 31 st BRROW PURPOS: The purpose of the Barrow Nursing Symposium is to provide an opportunity for neuroscience nurses and allied health professionals to acquire new knowledge and promote excellence in patient care. NUROLOGICL INSTITUT PROGRM OBJCTIVS: NURSING SYMPOSIUM 1. Describe how the pathophysiology, signs, symptoms and treatments have affected various White House residents who had neuroscience issues. 2. Describe the etiology and management of fever in critically ill patients. 3. Compare and contrast current healthcare economics with care delivery systems. 4. Illustrate the patient safety mechanisms that may be provided by the use of checklists. 5. Differentiate the types of headaches and current treatment modalities for migraine headaches. 6. Demonstrate effective methods the nurse can employ to decrease stress and increase well being. 7. xplain the use of deep brain stimulation to control side effects of illnesses such as Parkinson disease. 8. Discuss strategies to balance pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods of pain management 9. xplore the diagnosis and treatment surrounding seizure disorders. 10. Describe the neurological experience from the patient s perspective.
