3 Target Audience This conference is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, rehab therapists and others who care for stroke patients. Purpose The purpose of this conference is to present current literature, guidelines and best practices for the prevention, diagnosis and management of stroke across the patient care continuum. Objectives At the conclusion of this competency-based activity, the learner should be able to: Discuss priorities in the care of children with stroke. Implement appropriate assessment criteria for patients with ischemic stroke who are at high risk of developing edema and neurological deterioration. Describe current management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Recognize the challenges stroke patients and care partners face during rehabilitation and recovery. Explain how palliative care principles can be built into care of severe stroke patients in the Neuro ICU. Discuss benefits and barriers of palliative care for stroke patients and their families.
