2 CME Credit The Wake Area Health Education Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Accreditation Wake AHEC is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Disclosure Wake AHEC adheres to ACCME Essential Areas and policies regarding industry support of continuing medical education. Commercial support for the program and faculty relationships within the industry will be disclosed at the activity. Speakers will also state when off-label or experimental drugs or devices are incorporated in their presentations. Additional Credit Other health professionals will receive Wake AHEC CEU and a certificate of attendance from an AMA PRA Category 1 Credit activity. These certificates are accepted by the NC Boards for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses and pharmacists. License requirements are subject to change. 3 Target Audience This conference is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, rehab therapists and others who care for stroke patients. Purpose The purpose of this conference is to present current literature, guidelines and best practices for the prevention, diagnosis and management of stroke across the patient care continuum. Objectives At the conclusion of this competency-based activity, the learner should be able to: Discuss priorities in the care of children with stroke. Implement appropriate assessment criteria for patients with ischemic stroke who are at high risk of developing edema and neurological deterioration. Describe current management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Recognize the challenges stroke patients and care partners face during rehabilitation and recovery. Explain how palliative care principles can be built into care of severe stroke patients in the Neuro ICU. Discuss benefits and barriers of palliative care for stroke patients and their families.
