We look forward to Dr. Rutka bringing us up to date on what is happening in the research world with respect to Syringomyelia and Chiari. Be sure to bring your questions for the question and answer session following his presentation. We encourage all of our members to join us at this conference. Family & Community Medicine, St. Joseph's Health Centre Dr. Greenberg has a practise in Toronto, Ontario that he shares with his father, a fellow practioner. His presentation will focus on how to better communicate with your own doctor. Also, how to maximize the time allotted for your visit. Come and get great tips from a great speaker! Lorraine Mehltretter, MS, Genetic Counsellor "Genetic Studies of Chiari Type I Malformation and Syringomyelia" We are delighted to welcome Lorraine Mehltretter of the Centre for the Study of Inherited and Neurological Disorders, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, USA. The presentation with include a brief overview of the potential etiologies of Chiari Type I Malformation and subsequent syringomyelia, evidence of a genetic component in a subset of families, and our work thus far on candidate gene analysis and genome screening. Dr. Ian Horseman BSc, DC Dr. Horseman s presentation will cover the following: Basic Biomechanics of the Spine, Dynamics of Posture, Scoliosis Etiology from a chiropractic perspective, Concept of Spinal Cord Tension and how this would affect patients with SM Treatment of Scoliosis using the Pettibon System. Examples of treatment and success using pre and post x-rays and posture Katherine and Russ Loader, Canada's Leading Feng Shui experts. Katherine and Russ are experts at translating the complex principles of Feng Shui into a language which we can all understand and readily apply to our homes and business environment. As experts at making eastern concepts easily accessible, they have spent the last eight years showing people how to makes simple life changes that dramatically improve their health, wealth and happiness. Pain Management: to be confirmed FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND On Thursday there will be a separate workshop for family and friends only. This is an opportunity for family and friends to come together to talk about coping with a loved one living with chronic illness. At the same time there will be a separate workshop for members. 3 WHAT TO BRING Dress is casual for all sessions at the convention. You will probably be most comfortable in loose, layered clothing. We try to have the temperature set to a comfortable level, but if necessary, you can make adjustments to heat and cold with clothing. Dress for the Dinner/Dance is semi-formal. All rates are quoted in Canadian funds. Additional persons are $15.00 per night in the Sheraton and $10.00 per night in the Best Western, to a maximum of four people per room. Children 1 16 stay free. Wheelchair members who are booking a room at the Best Western should tell the hotel at the time of booking that they are in a wheelchair and would like to be upgraded to the Sheraton at the same rate, dependent on availability.
