2 Course Goal Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the pathophysiology, symptomatology, approaches to diagnosis, options for treatment and their effects on stroke outcome. This will lead to more appropriate consultation, diagnosis and treatment which in turn will translate to improved outcomes. Course Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, attendees will be able to: 1. Recognize the possibility that the etiology of a stroke may be a paradoxical mechanism and then order the correct testing to ascertain this. 2. Explain the relative benefits and risks of endovascular intervention in acute stroke 3. List the particular areas of attention needed for rehabilitation of a stroke patient 4. Order diagnostic testing and secondary prevention specific to strokes of each type 5. Describe the decision-making process appropriate to individual patients regarding surgery, endovascular, or medical therapy for asymptomatic aneurysms and carotid stenoses Target Audience This program is intended for neurologists, neurosurgeons, critical care physicians, emergency physicians, nurses and therapists who treat stroke patients. Accreditation St. Joseph s Hospital and Medical Center (SJHMC) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
